POSITION OVERVIEW:

Athene is a great place to be! Our Accountant I position will report to the Director GAAP Reporting but will work independently with peers and leaders across the organization to manage and execute financial processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs financial reporting related tasks for assigned entities/functions. Includes posting and verification of journal entries, hierarchy and report building, coordinating work requirements and deadlines from others, managing the Athene financial close process.
  • Support the analysis of financial results and research and resolve variances and inconsistencies in financial statements by applying normal accounting techniques and standard practices.
  • Performs reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Collaborate with other teams both within and outside of Finance to achieve mutual objectives and support problem solving.
  • Assist with annual external audits and examinations including the preparation of work papers, analysis of data, and information gathering.
  • Assist with SEC and GAAP reporting.
  • Assist in the coordination and creating of GAAP ledger infrastructure and reports.
  • Implement GAAP accounting policy for new business transactions.
  • Assists with other finance projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience is required.
  • 7+ years of GAAP accounting and reporting is required; insurance company experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Workiva’s Wdesk solution is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle, Essbase, and Hyperion is preferred.
  • Completion of or interest in CPA and/or FLMI designations is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to draw conclusions from research and report on findings.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficient with MS Office products such as Word and Excel.
