General Description:

BeOne Medicines is seeking a strategic and operational leader to join our Global Clinical Operations (GCO) JAPAC team. This newly created role will be pivotal in shaping and executing regional clinical strategies by integrating data-driven feasibility, business operations, and cross-functional alignment across JAPAC. The ideal candidate will bring a unique blend of scientific acumen, operational expertise, and strategic foresight to support the successful delivery of clinical trials in one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse regions.

Essential Functions of the job:

This role is pivotal to our evolving clinical strategy in JAPAC. By integrating feasibility and strategic planning under one umbrella, we aim to accelerate patient enrollment, enhance trial efficiency, and strengthen our regional footprint. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of clinical development in one of the most dynamic and diverse regions globally.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Business Operations:

  • Partner closely with the Director, GCO JAPAC, to coordinate and drive regional strategic planning initiatives for clinical trial execution, ensuring strong alignment with global and JAPAC-specific goals and business priorities.
  • Take ownership of monitoring operational performance metrics, identifying emerging risks, and recommending mitigation strategies that enhance delivery and efficiency.
  • Support and contribute to resource planning, budget forecasting, and operational optimization across the JAPAC clinical portfolio, ensuring transparency, consistency, and accountability in execution.
  • Champion the adoption and consistent implementation of operational processes, systems, and standards across trials, fostering continuous improvement and best practice sharing throughout the region.
  • Partner with the Director to strengthen knowledge management processes, ensuring critical information and learnings are captured, retained, and leveraged for future initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of sourcing strategies and support vendor governance to promote efficiency, collaboration, and quality across regional operations.

Therapeutic Area Leadership, Landscaping & Feasibility Planning

  • Work in close partnership with the Director, GCO JAPAC, to lead TA landscaping and support strategic feasibility planning across the region. Assess country level capabilities to ensure high-quality feasibility insights and contribute to optimized trial delivery outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of regional TA-specific strategies that integrate disease landscape, patient population insights, and competitive intelligence to identify opportunities and proactively mitigate feasibility risks.
  • Build and sustain deep regional TA expertise, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and cross-functional collaboration in alignment with global development plans and JAPAC priorities.

Regional Feasibility Leadership

  • Lead and coordinate regional feasibility activities at the JAPAC level, partnering closely with country clinical operations teams to ensure alignment, consistency, and high-quality delivery across the region.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for feasibility activities, collaborating with global, regional, and country stakeholders to integrate local insights and ensure that JAPAC perspectives are represented in global feasibility and planning discussions.
  • Deliver data-driven strategic feasibility analyses and reports for early- to late-stage medicines development, incorporating regional and country-level inputs to guide decision-making and optimize clinical trial strategies.
  • Provide actionable feasibility strategies for country and site selection, patient recruitment, and retention at the TA/indication/program level, ensuring they are tailored to the unique operational realities and business priorities across JAPAC.
  • Partner with country teams to evaluate local capabilities, identify potential challenges, and define risk mitigation and enrollment strategies that support successful study execution.
  • Build and maintain regional expertise in the standard of care, disease landscape, and competitive intelligence—including active or upcoming trials, recent approvals, and recruitment capabilities—to continuously inform feasibility recommendations and operational planning.

Operational Oversight, Study Delivery & Risk Management

  • Provide regional oversight and guidance to ensure operational excellence and consistency in study delivery across JAPAC. Partner closely with country teams to support the achievement of recruitment and site activation goals, ensuring alignment with global and regional priorities.
  • Collaborate with country and cross-functional teams to monitor progress, identify potential challenges, and provide strategic recommendations and operational support to maintain delivery timelines and quality standards.
  • Support proactive risk management at the regional level by identifying portfolio or study-specific risks, developing contingency plans, and coordinating mitigation efforts with country and global stakeholders.
  • Promote operational best practices and continuous improvement across the region by sharing learnings, optimizing processes, and driving alignment to enhance efficiency, quality, and overall trial performance.

Regional Initiative Support & Representation

  • Act as a regional representative for JAPAC in global or cross-functional initiatives that require local operational input, strategic insights, or coordination.
  • Support the implementation of regional and global initiatives by collaborating with country teams to ensure local feasibility, alignment with JAPAC priorities, and consistent execution.
  • Serve as a liaison between global stakeholders and JAPAC countries, providing regional perspectives, sharing best practices, and contributing to the continuous evolution of global operational strategies.
  • Contribute to project teams or working groups focused on process improvement, capability building, or digital and data transformation initiatives relevant to clinical operations across the region.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Proactively identify potential issues and seek improvement opportunities in clinical trial execution.
  • Take initiative for issue resolution within and outside the Global Clinical Operations department.
  • Coordinate risk management processes, including proactive risk identification, evaluation, and mitigation planning.
  • Ensure alignment with broader organizational strategic initiatives and business needs, providing recommendations to generate greater value for the company.

Qualification Required:

Education Required:

Advanced degree in life sciences, pharmacy, public health, or related field.

Computer Skills:   

  • Advanced knowledge Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Outlook; Smartsheet, SharePoint, MS Teams,
  • Analytical Tools (e.g.Citeline, Trialtrove), CTMS, EDC, and feasibility software etc.

Other Qualifications:  

  • Minimum 10 years in clinical development, clinical operations, or strategic planning within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry; regional experience in JAPAC preferred.
  • Prior experience in clinical development, clinical science, or related scientific roles will be considered a strong plus, demonstrating the ability to integrate scientific understanding with operational execution.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of clinical trial design, feasibility, and regulatory landscapes across JAPAC.
  • Proven ability to synthesize scientific and operational data into strategic insights.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without authority.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking; able to operate in a complex, dynamic marketplace.
  • Proficiency with analytic tools (e.g., Citeline, Trialtrove), CTMS, EDC, and feasibility software.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize regional intelligence and operational data into actionable recommendations for protocol design and execution.
  • Fluent in English; additional regional languages a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound, timely decisions while balancing strategic priorities and operational realities.
  • Strong project management capabilities with proven success leading complex, multi-country initiatives.
  • Skilled collaborator who thrives in a matrixed, multicultural environment with the ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Proven track record of identifying and driving process improvements to increase operational efficiency.
