Position Summary

The Associate Director, Supply Chain Operations will lead and manage the AMR Manufacturing Enablement Teams consisting of Receiving, Materials/Staging, and Shipping for all AMR Manufacturing sites: Hayward, San Diego, and Madison.  The objective of this leader is to “make customers heroes” as they focus on the sites’ Manufacturing leadership and Operations, including Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Planning, Sourcing, and Supplier Quality Engineering, … ensuring a well-orchestrated flow of materials into and out of Manufacturing.  The goals are to drive customer product service levels, cost savings, and inventory management while maintaining a high level of employee engagement.  Operational Excellence and Compliance are critical in these functions where New Products are regularly designed, developed, and released.  Warehousing responsibilities include support for all inventories storage strategies, including both direct material and non-stock/indirect materials management.  Close synchronization is required with Global Logistics and Supply Chain Process Excellence teams to leverage systems/tools capabilities and to provide inputs into future solutions and network design.

Responsibilities

  • Operate under the direction and supervision of Senior Director, Supply Chain AMR.
  • Develop and implement a multi-year best-practice program to improve AMR operations efficiency and cost-to-deliver; leverage WMS/ERP tools to drive optimization and team productivity
  • Create a compelling vision and direction for the team.
  • Build, lead, develop, inspire, and retain Supply Chain Operations Manufacturing Enablement Teams across multiple sites.
  • Ensure seamless material flow to support production schedules and customer success.
  • Oversee warehousing and material flow strategies for direct and indirect materials.
  • Drive customer safety, quality, service levels, cost optimization, and inventory management to agreed targets.
  • Maintain compliance and operational excellence in a dynamic environment with frequent new product introductions.
  • Ensure operational SOP’s and policies are current, effective, well-communicated and trained.
  • Deliver compliance excellence for Safety, Quality Management System, and ISO 13485.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align short-term and long-term priorities.
  • Collaborate with Global Supply Chain teams to leverage tools and influence future network design.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and high performance.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Advanced degree (MA, MBA) preferred.
  • Degree in Supply Chain or Logistics Management preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma or Operational Excellence certification desired.
  • Preferred; APICS certification.
  • 15+ years’ direct leadership experience in the field of Logistics / Warehousing or closely related function.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering warehousing/material flow/logistics best practices in a multi-site environment.
  • Strong supply chain experience of leading multi-site teams to achieve exceptional results.
  • Strong experience in life science, logistics service provider or medical device companies considered a strong advantage.
  • Direct experience in an ISO 13485, FDA, and GMP environment are an advantage
  • Direct experience in managing handling, flows and integrity for cold chain products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, judgement, creativity, agility.
  • Experience engaging cross-functionally and collaboratively to develop and implement compliance programs.
  • Ability to adapt to rapid change, work with a sense of urgency, and manage time effectively.
  • Advanced capabilities with ERP systems, preferably SAP.  SAP TMS and/or EWM an advantage

  • Willing to travel to supplier, customer and Illumina sites from time to time.

The estimated base salary range for the Associate Director, Supply Chain Operations role based in the United States of America is: $170,600 - $255,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
