Associate Director, Product Control - Canadian Banking

What is the opportunity?

This role leads the Canadian Banking Product Control team within the P&CB Finance, specifically covering Credit Card and Personal Banking & Investments.

This role is primarily accountable for effectively managing the weekly and monthly Profit and Loss reporting for the Canadian Banking platform. This involves managing a team of product controllers to ensure reporting is accurate and supported for the associated P&L and balance sheet. The Associate Director will also ensure that all daily and monthly accounting, reconciliations and attestations are performed regularly and are accurate and complete; as well as ensuring that all disclosures and regulatory reporting are performed monthly, quarterly or annually as required and are accurate and complete.

What will you do?

  • Manage a team of four that produce P&L and decomposition
  • Communication of monthly estimate and actual results to Finance stakeholders and senior management
  • Review and approve all monthly accounting entries to the G/L and review reconciliations to ensure figures are properly tied back to the systems of records
  • Review and approve all monthly, quarterly and annual disclosures and regulatory reporting to ensure results are accurate and appropriate
  • Ensure that all daily and monthly procedure manuals and documentation is complete and up-to-date for the area
  • Assist managers in the investigation and resolution of P/L discrepancies arising from incorrect booking of trades, missing deals, system errors, valuation methodologies, etc. by liaising with various functional teams
  • Maintain all relevant SOX/End User Computing (EUC) controls
  • Design, deliver, and implement analytic development projects, with the use of RBC’s analytics tools
  • Ensure that project activities are accomplished within approved time frames, scope, and budgets
  • Confirm that projects adhere to development standards and guidelines
  • Work with data warehouses on various projects
  • Monitor and liaise with IT and systems groups with regards to data and sources
  • Prepare analysis / reports to meet ad-hoc requests as necessary
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive and highly performing team
  • Ability to make a real impact to the bank and have decisions that will change how we do business

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 3+ years’ of experience in Product Control or a closely related role
  • Proven experience and strong overall understanding of Product Control activities, operations and linkages with other teams
  • Strong leadership, analytical, communication and people management skills
  • Ability to make decisions and collaborate effectively with people
  • Ability to deal with problems that are not well defined and create clear and concise solutions with feedback from many users
  • Experienced in project management and change management

Nice-to-have

  • CA/CGA/CMA/CPA/CFA/MBA (Finance) or other accounting designation
  • Experience working with Big Data to drive Business Driver insights and analytics
  • Strong understanding of P&CB loans and deposits systems, as well as downstream Finance systems such as OLMS, OLBB, DDA, BVI, CGID, and ALRETS
