Position Details

The University of Tampa, a medium sized, comprehensive, private university is seeking to fill the position of Associate Director of Service and Leadership Development. This position supports the development of community engagement, responsible citizenship education, student volunteerism and service, and peer co-curricular advising that are grounded in student learning outcomes. This position is a member of the Office of Community Engagement, and reports to the Director of Community Engagement. The Associate Director of Service and Leadership Development is a full-time, 12-month, non-exempt position in the Office of Student Affairs.

The Associate Director serves as an Office of Student Affairs member. This position will uphold the values of data-informed practice, sense of belonging, overall well-being, professional staff development, retention and persistence, and Spartan Ready® culture. The work of this position will intentionally align with strategic focus areas to advance the mission and vision of Student Affairs, which results in student learning and support for students to grow as global citizens.


Responsibilities include:

Student Organizations

1. Teach a course annually in the Leadership Minor program, LED 200 (

(Introduction to Leadership)
2. Supervise the Coordinator of Student Engagement
3. Plan, coordinate, and host the Fall and Spring RSO Involvement Fair
4. Develop the Student Organization Suite student employees, composed of

experienced student leaders who serve as a resource and advocate for the

RSOs
a. Supervise and train the Student Organization Suite employees 
b. Manage the staffing and budget for the Student Organization Suite
5.  Develop, implement, and assess comprehensive leadership curricula for on

going student organization leader training, build a framework of need-based

training to accommodate varied levels of student leadership development 
a. Plan, coordinate, and host the RSO Leadership Training Series

curriculum with the Coordinator of Student Engagement
b. Create ongoing small group training as needed for new formed RSOS

with the Coordinator of Student Engagement
c. Plan, coordinate, and host a transition meeting for RSO leaders in

spring with the Coordinator of Student Engagement
6. Outreach to RSO advisors for more involvement and periodic meetings with

the advisor and student leader. 
7. Participate in planning and implementation of voter registration and

education initiatives and programming. 
8.  Recruit hire and train student staff for the PEACE volunteer center, directly

supervising 2 student coordinators and advising 9 other student staff

members.
9.  Advise PEACE staff about domestic and international Spartan Service Break

trips in consultation with the Director, Community Engagement. 
10. Oversee the PEACE Budget with the Student Coordinators. 
11. Coordinate accurate record keeping of community service and service

learning hours for individuals, organizations, faculty, and staff. 
12. Manage the Spartan Community Mentors after school tutoring program.
13. Coordinate the UTampa Serves umbrella organization for all service related

organizations.
14. Collaborate with campus partners (Residence Life, Wellness, Academic

Affairs, etc.) and student organizations planning campus wide community

engagement and service programming.
15. Develop community partner relationships in collaboration with the Director,

Community Engagement. 
16. Establish strategic and measurable learning goals for areas of governance,

intentionally create environments/programs to facilitate student learning

and development, and assess at regular intervals
17. Build a positive rapport with students, staff, and faculty by maintaining

availability, visibility, and a genuine concerned attitude. 
18. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge, of respect

for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and

backgrounds
 

General Responsibilities:
1. Establish strategic and measurable learning goals for areas of governance.

Intentionally create environments/programs to facilitate student learning

and development and assesses at regular intervals. 
2. Build positive rapport with students, staff, and faculty by maintaining

availability, visibility, and a genuine, concerned attitude. 
3. Participate and represent the Office of Community Engagement in division,

University, and professional activities.
4. Participate in the Leadership Awards Night planning committee and support

the event.
5. Maintain webpages and University marketing materials related to Student

Engagement and provide online resources for student leaders and advisors. 

6. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for,

and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and

backgrounds.

Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in higher education or related area required.
2. Previous event planning experience.
3. Demonstrated experience in student programming and contract negotiation.
4. Experience with digital technology that supports engagement,

project management
5. Flexible hours required to support evening and weekend events.
6. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and organizational skills.

7. Knowledge of or the ability to learn The University of Tampa software

programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

8. Previous supervision experience required.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer:  Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
