AstraZeneca

Associate Director, Medical Information & Communications

Canada - Mississauga Full time

Overview

We are seeking strategic, collaborative, and innovative professionals with clinical experience and strong communication skills to join our Global/US Medical Information and Communications (MI&C) team. MI&C has a broad remit across medical information and medical communications, continuously innovating to deliver excellence that supports healthcare professionals and ultimately improves patients’ lives.

Team Structure and Alignment

MI&C operates across two complementary tracks. Depending on business needs, you will be aligned to one of the following:

  • US-Focused: Strong focus on US strategy and execution excellence, including promotional review, content localization, and support for Medical Information Request (MIR) escalation.
  • Global-Focused: Strategic planning, development, and governance of global core content, along with engagement and collaboration with local markets.
  • Both tracks contribute to metrics and insights generation, as well as the continuous improvement of MI&C processes.

What You’ll Do

MI&C at AstraZeneca is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and implementation of medical content and communication for healthcare professionals across channels—including digital—to support patient care.

You will serve as a scientific communications expert, applying clinical knowledge and insights relevant to therapeutic areas, healthcare systems, products, disease-state management, emerging therapies, digital communication and the competitive landscape—integrated with regulatory understanding—to inform brand and disease medical strategy and execution.

This role also champions forward-thinking approaches and digital-first innovation to drive efficiency and enable engaging scientific exchange.

US-Focused Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Serve as the primary MI&C lead for the assigned brand or area, collaborating with US medical and commercial stakeholders to plan strategically and ensure successful completion of MI&C deliverables.

  • Promotional Review: Act as the primary MI&C reviewer on the US cross-functional promotional review team, providing scientific consultation on brand messaging and reviewing/approving promotional materials for scientific accuracy and balance.
  • Medical Information Requests (MIRs): Provide oversight on the delivery of accurate, focused, and scientifically balanced responses to inquiries from healthcare professionals including guiding MIR escalations
  • Medical Content: Proactively plan, develop, review, and maintain scientific communication materials aligned to US strategy and channels. Localize global content for the US market and create US-specific strategic content as needed, including digital/interactive omnichannel content.
  • Metrics and Insights: Generate and synthesize US MI & content metrics and trends into actionable insights to inform content and broader brand strategies.
  • Process and Innovation: Lead/contribute to MI&C processes to drive operational excellence, efficiency, and digital innovation.

Global-Focused Accountabilities and Responsibilities

Be accountable for proactively planning and developing scientific content to support global and local medical objectives and omnichannel use.

  • Content Strategy: Collaborate with key stakeholders to plan and execute the global scientific content strategy.
  • Core Content Development: Lead the development, review, and maintenance of global core content—including scientific narratives, scientific messages, scientific foundations, science stories, and digital/omnichannel assets (e.g., digital MI responses, virtual interactive content, field medical materials). Additional content creation may include symposium, advisory board, and congress materials.
  • Digital-first scientific communication:
  • Market Collaboration: Drive reuse of global content by partnering with local markets on adoption and adaptation.
  • Escalated Inquiries: Guide complex escalated medical inquiries from local markets.
  • Metrics and Insights: Generate and synthesize cross-market metrics and trends into actionable insights to inform global content and broader brand strategies.
  • Process and Innovation: Lead/contribute to MI&C processes to drive operational excellence, efficiency, and digital innovation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Scientific/medical writing, communication, and content creation (e.g., slide decks).

  • Drug information or clinical residency/fellowship preferred.
