Job Overview
The Associate Director will work with the Faculty Director on all strategic, operational, administrative, and personnel matters involving the Massive Data Institute (MDI). The Associate Director will be responsible for 1) collaborating with the Faculty Director and MDI executive committee to develop and implement strategic plans; (2) recruiting, supervising, and developing MDI staff; (3) managing and recruiting partnerships with Georgetown and external partners; (4) managing MDI financials with the Faculty Director and McCourt finance; and (5) representing MDI at GU and McCourt meetings and events.
The Associate Director provides strategic advice and trusted support to the Director in a wide variety of areas including: managing special projects, managing staff to ensure the day-to-day operations of MDI, implementing marketing and communication plans with MDI staff, and leading staff efforts to plan and host events. S/he will represent the Institute to senior management across campus; and develop and manage strategic partnerships and funding opportunities.
Work Interactions
The Associate Director will support the MDI mission focused on using interdisciplinary teams and methods and modern computing power to tackle societal scale issues and impact public policy in ways that improve people’s lives through responsible evidence-based research and provide experiential learning opportunities to help train the next generation of scholars and practitioners. The Associate Director will report to the Faculty Director.
The Associate Director will develop the MDI annual budget with the Faculty Director, in line with programming priorities for the year. S/he will track spending and oversee financial activities within the unit. The Associate Director will serve as primary liaison to the Office of Advancement.
Requirements and Qualifications
Minimum of 5 to 7 years of management experience, with preference given to candidates from the fields of public policy, social science, program management, business or related disciplines. A technical background is a plus, as is an advanced degree in public policy or data science related fields.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$66,783.00 - $126,720.23Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
