We are committed to supporting our students on their educational journeys.  The Financial Aid Office plays a crucial role in ensuring students have access to the resources they need to succeed.  We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced professional to join our team as the Associate Director of Loans. 

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Loans & Outreach, the individual in this role will provide leadership, oversight and supervision of loan team and daily operations to ensure the timely delivery of federal and private loan programs.  The key responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Leadership & Management:

  • Oversee the Financial Aid Loan Unit, managing a dedicated team of 3 staff members
  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to the loan unit and the broader financial aid office on all loan-related matters.

Financial Oversight:

  • Successfully reconcile over $600 million in Federal Direct Loans in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Direct the processing of over $650 million in federal and private student loans, ensuring accuracy and compliance for both undergraduate and graduate student populations.

Training & Development

  • Train financial aid and Student Services Contact Center staff of loan policies and procedures, fostering a knowledgeable team. 
  • Provides guidance and support to the loan unit staff and the rest of the financial aid office on loan related manners

Collaboration & Communication

  • Works closely with compliance team to ensure strict adherence to federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with the outreach team to ensure clear communication about loan related concerns are up to date and accurate on all platforms. 
  • Partner with Bursar Operations to reconcile federal disbursements monthly.

Student Engagement

  • Liaise with the Communications team to manage messaging to students regarding student loans.
  • Engages in student recruitment and conversion events as needed to assist with the overall financial aid counseling. 

Policy Development

  • Under the guidance of the Associate Dean, develops and implements policies and procedures for effective loan management and processing.
  • Leads quality control initiatives for loan processing in partnership with the Associate Dean.

System Development

  • Identifies necessary changes in the financial aid management system to enhance efficiency and ensure compliance with federal regulations.  Collaborate with information technology staff to test these improvements. 

Stakeholders Relations

  • Manage the university’s relationships with all student loan
    service providers to ensure the best access to quality financial aid
    products and services for our students.
  • Collaborate with various campus partners and offices on reporting and relevant projects to effectively address student needs.

The salary range for this position is $85,000-$95,445.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
