Associate Director, Insurance Strategy, Office of the CIO – SLC Management

What is in it for you:

Reporting to the Managing Director, Insurance Strategy within the Office of the CIO, the Associate Director, Insurance Strategy will support the development and execution of investment strategies for Sun Life’s Insurance General Account. The role provides exposure to asset allocation, capital efficiency considerations, and cross‑functional initiatives that help optimize insurance investment outcomes.  In addition to providing ongoing support for Sun Life, the successful incumbent will also partner with the SLC Management Client Solutions team to contribute to build relationships with other clients and provide innovative strategies and solutions to insurance companies leveraging the expertise of SLC Management and its affiliates.

This is a growth‑focused role suitable for candidates with approximately 5 years of experience in asset management, insurance, investment consulting, or related fields.

What you will do:

  • Support assessment of asset strategies across classes and sectors, ensuring alignment with the insurance company’s risk appetite, regulatory considerations, and portfolio needs.
  • Assist in analyzing capital efficiency opportunities for General Account investments, including researching potential structuring solutions and helping prepare recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Coordinate with internal partners, including those within the Sun Life Risk, Finance and Actuarial Functions, the SLF OCIO and the Client Solutions team, to gather insights on new products, strategies, and market developments relevant to the General Account.
  • Conduct research and analysis to help identify, evaluate and execute on synergies between Sun Life and its asset management partners, including SLC Management and its Affiliates.
  • Support enterprise‑wide projects, acquisitions, and special initiatives led by the Office of the CIO by preparing materials, conducting due diligence, and managing follow‑up items.
  • Manage and track multiple workstreams, ensuring deliverables are completed on time and aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Prepare presentations, dashboards, and briefing materials for senior leadership, translating technical content into clear insights.

What you need to succeed:

  • Approximately 5 years of experience in asset management, insurance, investment consulting, corporate finance, or a related field.
  • University degree in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, or related field; MBA, MFE, or CFA designation considered an asset
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to structure problems, interpret data, and communicate insights clearly.
  • Familiarity with insurance investment concepts, regulatory environments, and capital considerations is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work proactively, and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and strong attention to detail.
  • Curiosity, willingness to learn, and comfort working in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.

Salary Range
