Role summary:

The Associate Director, Value Chain Leader (VCL) will lead cross-functional matrix teams known as the Global Operations Team Lites (GO-Team Lites) for managing manufacturing and supply strategies for multiple pharmaceutical established brands (EB). The GO Team Lites will manage brand strategies with differentiated focus compared to growth brands – clustering more than one brand where feasible in a single GO Team Lite and meeting less frequently (every other month or quarterly instead of standard monthly cadence for GO teams). The VCL will develop and maintain a multi-year supply strategy; prioritize key investments across the end-to-end supply chain; assure key project execution; and drive year on year attainment of brand operating metrics.

The scope of the product strategy that the VCL will oversee and manage will include but not be limited to product SKU/market rationalization, network rationalization, technical transfers, supply assurance, batch size reductions, process and method technical changes, robustness/quality and productivity projects, product deletions, and product divestitures.

The VCL will partner with Established Brands Commercial team, Established Brands Global Product Team (EB GPT) and Established Brands Steering Committee (EBSC) to ensure that we are collectively aligned to execute the top priorities for the EB brands at an enterprise level. In this context, the VCL will ensure that value, constraints, costs, and risks are clear and appropriately factored into decision-making and aligned enterprise-level product planning.

Additionally, the VCL will lead the GO-Team lite to serve as a network-level escalation team to manage issues and risks escalated from sites and functions that require network-level responses and communications. The VCL will be accountable for driving decisions in an efficient and effective way through appropriate governance channels within GPS (GSR, BUS, BUILD) and through EB GPT/EBSC.

Responsibilities:

The GO-Team Lites, under VCL leadership, collectively carries the following responsibilities for the brands:

  • Maintains an integrated multi-year roadmap across the end-to-end value chain, prioritizing key projects including process and method technical changes, robustness/quality, productivity projects, technical transfers, network rationalization etc.
  • Develops global inventory strategies, including identification of opportunities and action plans to optimize end-to-end inventory. Maintains end-to-end product supply plans that address fragmentation complexities and maintain market supply continuity.
  • Working with EB GPT and EBSC, develop a roadmap for deletion or divestiture of brands per enterprise aligned delete/divest threshold.
  • If endorsed by leadership for deletion, support brand deletion activities including preparation of global deletion memo, securing endorsement from key stakeholders on the deletion memo, driving deletion activities and tracking the deletion activities in global deletion tracker.
  • Support divestiture preparation activities including pre-divestiture diligence. If divestiture plan is endorsed by Deal Review Committee (DRC), support divestiture activities including divestiture diligence, contracting, closing activities (inventory and document transfer) and post-closing transition activities.
  • On an annual basis evaluate opportunities for SKU/market rationalization for the brands based on SKU level margins and volumes and work with Customer Partnership and Supply Orchestration (CPSO) team to get alignment from markets on proposed SKU/market rationalization. Ensure the aligned plan is documented in deletion memos and execute the plan.
  • Ensures priority projects are aligned and resourced across key functions and sites and ensures completion and value delivery.
  • Manages risks and issues that escalate above single site or function level.
  • Maintains brand strategy slides to document overall GPS brand strategy including brand dashboard (health of brand), physical and financial flows, strategic and operational inventory targets, SKU/market rationalization plans, network rationalization, scale-down projects etc.

Additionally, the VCL EB team in Hyderabad will serve as a GO team Center of Excellence for activities like SKU/market rationalization activities, deletion/divestiture and change controls.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • B.S. or BA in science and/or engineering (biotechnology, biology, chemistry, pharmacy, engineering or related sciences). Master’s or advanced degree (sciences or business) would be preferred.
  • Min 7 years experience in pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry with exposure to one or more areas in operations, supply chain, manufacturing technology, quality, regulatory and R&D. 10+ years experience would be preferred.
  • Capability to build alignment with business partners in R&D and commercial as well as with stakeholder functions within manufacturing and supply organization.
