The big picture: Reporting to the Managing Editor of Axios Live, the Associate Director will play a key supporting role in the editorial booking and production of newsmaking events.
Why it matters: You will be responsible as a high-caliber relationship builder to book high-level newsmakers, move fast, and maintain editorial integrity for Axios Live stages.
Go deeper: Axios Live events have become some of the most sought after newsmaking events. We are looking for someone to serve as the Axios representative to today’s key influencers to include them in Smart Brevity programming across the globe. This role will:
- Book senior leaders (CEOs, politicians, world leaders) across Axios Live programming ranging from Axios Local events, to national summits, virtual events, and more.
- Liaise with the Axios newsroom and leadership, securing interviews, managing logistics and coordinating interview preparation.
- Help ensure Axios Live events meet Axios’ editorial standards and reflect diverse, compelling perspectives.
- Exercise strong editorial judgment in fast-moving news environments, including the ability to pivot bookings and programming in response to breaking developments.
- Develop and assist with the creation of event language, marketing materials, scripts, and onstage cues.
- Provide newsroom support during live events, ensuring event materials are organized and accessible for breaking news needs.
Worthy of your time: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit, a passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:
- 2 to 4 years of booking/media experience, ideally in a newsroom environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to craft persuasive pitches.
- Deep interest and knowledge in news trends, emerging topics, and the daily news cycle.
- Ability to brainstorm, pitch, and build out a full show program.
- Experience booking and working with high-profile influencers, politicians, and newsmakers.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with key influencers, principals, chiefs of staff, and communications teams to ensure repeat and trusted participation in Axios Live programming.
- Experience leveraging AI tools to improve efficiency across research, booking, and production workflows, with an interest in how emerging technologies can enhance newsroom operations.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tight deadlines concurrently.
- Familiarity with Axios’ Smart Brevity writing style.
- Background in media, Capitol Hill, or political campaigns is a plus.
Starting salary for this role is in the range of $85,000 - $105,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
