Organization and Position Overview:
Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact.
Responsibilities:
Collaboratively define and develop the enterprise data management strategy for the Medicine Foundry, establishing governance frameworks, architectural standards, and data policies that enable automated, paperless, and fully integrated operations
Maintain business ownership of the cutting-edge data governance structures including data ownership models, stewardship programs, data quality standards, and master data management processes that position the Foundry as a leader in pharmaceutical data excellence
Partner with Tech@Lilly and Automation teams to design and implement innovative enterprise data architecture leveraging modern data platforms, real-time integration, and cloud-native solutions that ensure seamless connectivity across MES, LIMS, SAP, Sample Management, and digital plant systems
Establish forward-thinking data standards and metadata frameworks that ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, EU Annex 11, and other regulatory requirements while enabling advanced analytics and AI/ML capabilities
Lead cross-functional data governance council with representatives from PR&D, M&Q, QC, QA, and Engineering to align on data definitions, quality metrics, and integration requirements that support the digital thread vision
Champion the use of emerging data technologies, including data fabric architectures, knowledge graphs, semantic layers, and advanced data cataloging solutions to unlock maximum value from Foundry data assets
Define data requirements and analytics capabilities needed to support real-time operational visibility, predictive analytics, AI/ML applications, and data-driven decision making across the entire value chain
Develop and implement innovative data integrity controls, automated audit trails, and intelligent data lifecycle management processes that maintain regulatory compliance while enabling operational agility
Drive the adoption of modern data practices, including DataOps, data observability, and automated data quality monitoring to ensure the Foundry operates with world-class data excellence
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of data management professionals who bring expertise in data governance, data architecture, data quality, and regulatory compliance
Establish metrics and KPIs to measure data quality, data accessibility, and business value delivered through enterprise data capabilities
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or related discipline;
Minimum of 6years of progressive experience in data science management, data architecture, or related fields with at least 5 years of project management. Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other FDA-regulated industries with deep understanding of cGMP data integrity requirements
Proven track record of designing and implementing enterprise data strategies and modern data architectures in complex, regulated environments
Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical M&Q systems including MES, LIMS, ERP (SAP), and related manufacturing and quality systems
Expert understanding of data governance frameworks, master data management, metadata management, and data quality management principles and tools
Experience with modern data platforms, cloud data solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP), data integration technologies, and API-based architectures
Additional Preferences:
Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Data Science, Data Engineering, or related quantitative field
Proven experience implementing cutting-edge data solutions such as data mesh, data fabric, knowledge graphs, or real-time streaming architectures in enterprise pharmaceutical environments
Hands-on experience with modern data platforms including data lakes, lakehouses (Databricks, Snowflake), and cloud-native data services
Track record of enabling AI/ML capabilities through ML-ready data platforms, feature stores, or MLOps frameworks
Experience with DataOps practices, data observability tools, and automated data quality monitoring solutions
Entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated success in greenfield, startup, or digital transformation environments requiring creativity, resilience, and high learning agility

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$124,500 - $182,600Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
