About the Role

Due to an upcoming retirement, we have an outstanding opportunity to join the Senior Executive Team at Flinders University Library as our Associate Director, Content and Digital Library Strategy. In this role you will play a key role in shaping and implementing comprehensive library plans, policies, and budget strategies to ensure alignment with organizational goals and optimal resource allocation.

As Associate Director, Content and Digital Library Services, you will be accountable for leading and managing teams responsible for resources, content, and digital infrastructure to ensure alignment with the University’s strategic priorities and Library plans.

With the shared support of the Senior Executive, you will drive digital transformation, manage budgets—particularly for collection acquisitions—and contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and compliance with University standards and legislation. A key focus is maintaining a sustainable workforce that reflects the University’s ethos and values while ensuring high-quality services for students, staff, and researchers.

About You

With high level and influential written and interpersonal communication skills, you are an exemplary leader and enjoy building and maintaining collaborative partnerships both internally and externally.

You understand the issues confronting academic libraries and Australian Universities, and use your strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to apply these through planning, policy analysis and implementation; keeping in mind current trends and developments in information and communication technology and how libraries can apply these developments.

You are committed to a service ethic and have proven ability to lead an effective service organisation, including leading and managing staff, fostering effective continuous improvement, managing resources and meeting project deadlines.

The ideal candidate will also hold a Postgraduate qualification in the information science domain: (e.g. Library Science, Information Records Management, Digital Literacy, Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital/eLearning, Digital Education; Vocational Education and Training, Business/Data Analytics), with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.

  • High level commitment to the service ethic and the demonstrated ability to lead an effective service organisation.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff, including the ability to foster effective continuous improvement, to manage resources and to meet project deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing a budget or contributing to budget planning and implementation.

  • Knowledge of, and interest in, the developments in scholarly communication and understanding of consortia agreements, transformative publishing and open access publishing trends.
