What is the opportunity?
Join the dynamic Capital Measurement team within RBC Corporate Treasury as a subject matter expert driving sophisticated capital calculation and risk methodology initiatives across our wholesale lending and counterparty credit risk portfolios. You will advise on advanced and complex regulatory capital calculations and provide guidance on credit risks methodologies with a focus on the wholesale portfolios.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the end-to-end regulatory capital measurement process for RBC's Wholesale portfolios, including complex calculations and reporting, in accordance with OSFI CAR and Basel frameworks
- Conduct analysis to define capital measurement requirements for diverse wholesale portfolios including (Lending, Securities, SFTs, and Derivatives, etc.)
- Lead projects related to capital calculations and risk methodology within wholesale portfolios
- Provide expertise on regulatory and economic capital calculations and credit risk methodologies
- Collaborate with business and IT teams to translate requirements into technical specifications. Oversee implementation, testing, and data mapping for relevant portfolios and risk types
- Ensure data quality and governance for capital calculations, including reconciliation and validation processes.
What you will do?
- Develop, enhance and execute measurement approaches related to capital measurement and management processes, including forecasting methodologies, assumptions/input, results, and business decisions in a controls-oriented environment.
- Lead the interpretation and implementation of new capital frameworks and requirements, contributing and often managing Quantitative Impact Studies (QIS), communicate impacts to affected stakeholders.
- Lead capital analytics and advisory related to complex capital calculations and risk methodologies, working collaboratively with internal businesses and functional groups to interpret, optimize, and manage credit risk capital drivers for their portfolios.
- Leverage business and product expertise to drive quantitative and qualitative analysis to determine capital, balance sheet, and ROE implications for proposed business strategies, new products and portfolio optimization initiatives. Including providing key insights to senior management to support decision-making on key capital related issues.
- Lead the independent challenge process for capital measurement and management activities, ensuring all assumptions, inputs, and results align with internal standards and external regulatory expectations.
- Drive strategic capital decisions by delivering data-driven analysis and executive-level summaries, backed by sophisticated scenario and sensitivity testing.
- Enhance and maintain policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure alignment of RBC’s reporting with internal and OSFI capital guidelines, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy in capital calculations.
- Author comprehensive and detailed business requirements for the implementation of Basel Regulatory Capital calculations, including business rules and data requirements, ensuring alignment with the underlying risk methodologies and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure integrity and completeness of all data inputs into Regulatory Capital engines as well as consistent application of business rules as driven by risk methodologies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including line of business, risk, finance, IT, and data teams to ensure accuracy of capital measurement calculations and represent capital measurement on cross-functional initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with systems development and monitor technology execution as a business lead.
- Play a key role in production and submission of critical internal and external disclosures and regulatory filings such as RBC’s Basel Capital Adequacy Requirements (BCAR), Pillar 3, NCR etc.
- Contribute, support and enhance the department’s capital measurement and management development, including forecasting, assumptions, governance, and result derivation.
- Promote the development of industry best practices as it pertains to capital management, keeping abreast of trends and supervisory guidance. Including developing options for potential advocacy work with external stakeholders such CBA, OSFI, BCBS, etc.
- Contribute analyses of new or changing regulations to assist with industry advocacy and engagement concerning capital measurement and management.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
- Qualification in fields of financial risk management (preferably quantitative area such math, data analytics engineering, computer science, statistics or finance). Master in Business Administration, Masters in Data Analytics, Master of Finance, etc. preferably with a professional designation such FRM, CFA, etc. and relevant experience in related fields.
- Experience required in credit risk management, regulatory and/or economic capital.
- Very strong data analytics skills with an ability to work with and analyze large volume of data sets using tools such as SQL, R, Python, etc.
- Strong knowledge of advanced quantitative techniques of risk measurement and parameter estimation, supported by business experience in their application.
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles and change management approaches.
- Strong communication skills, including well-developed verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to consistently deliver complex results against very tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail with proven ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
- A self-starter with the ability to independently manage work and drive multiple deliverables concurrently.
Nice to Have
- Broad knowledge of banking industry, including an understanding of wholesale banking products
- Thorough knowledge of RBC’s systems and infrastructure
