This role offers strong growth, visible impact, and the opportunity to help GSK unite science, technology, and talent to get ahead of disease together.

Role Purpose

The BI Development & Operations Associate Director provides end-to-end technical leadership for BI development, reporting engineering, and service operations across the Global Reporting Centre of Excellence (GR CoE) reporting ecosystem. The role is accountable for engineering quality, operational stability, governance controls, and continuous improvement, while enabling a high-performing delivery organisation.

Key Responsibilities

1) BI Delivery Leadership (Build)

  • Lead design and delivery of BI solutions and reporting pipelines, ensuring accuracy, performance and secure access.

  • Oversee end-to-end development lifecycle: intake → design → build → code review → testing → deployment → release validation.

  • Set engineering standards for Power BI (semantic models, DAX patterns, performance optimisation), SQL/query design, and report UX quality.

  • Ensure all solution designs follow agreed architectural principles, KPI definitions, logic layers, and governance controls.

  • Own technical artefacts such as data models, queries, connection definitions, data lineage and security matrices.

2) Operations & Service Excellence (Run)

  • Own BAU operations for reporting services: monitoring, incident management, problem management and performance tuning.

  • Drive adherence to service KPIs (availability, performance, incident resolution) and provide regular operational reporting.

  • Lead technical remediation and root-cause analysis; implement preventative controls and automation to reduce recurring incidents.

  • Maintain runbooks, support processes, release calendars, and operational readiness checklists for production changes.

3) Platform Governance & Controls

  • Own and maintain operational procedures, technical documentation, access controls, and change management processes.

  • Partner with Tech & Data teams on platform upgrades, environment stability, and architectural alignment.

  • Ensure security and compliance best practices are embedded (role-based access, RLS strategy, auditability, data handling standards).

  • Guide standardisation across legacy and new platforms and support migration strategies where required.

4) Continuous Improvement & Modern Engineering

  • Drive reduction of technical debt through refactoring, decommissioning, and lifecycle optimisation.

  • Maintain structured pipelines, deployment automations, and monitoring tools to improve reliability and speed.

  • Implement DevOps-style practices for BI (versioning, release controls, quality gates, automated validation where appropriate).

  • Improve engineering quality, performance, system health, and re-use through shared patterns and reusable components.

5) People Leadership & Capability Building

  • Coordinate and mentor BI developers and engineers, setting coding standards and deployment practices.

  • Build capability in BI engineering, service management, automation, and technical methodology.

  • Create a proactive culture focused on stability, quality, collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Support talent development, coaching, and performance enablement through clear expectations and feedback loops.
