The Associate Director of Bands, under direction, will assist the Director of Bands with various ensembles. In addition, help maintain the quality of the band program academically and musically.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position. 

Responsibilities:

  • Keeps Director of Bands informed about the latest equipment and music. Manage compliance; task-develop and implement compliance protocols for the band staff to ensure compliance with university standards. Assisting the Director with delegation to band staff members-graduate assistants-student workers managing appointments.

  • Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.

  • Oversees and assists the Pep Band and Summer High School Music Camp.

  • Assist Director of Bands with planning, rehearsals and directing the band to include organizing and responding in conjunction with the Director to request for band performances-Internal (on Campus) and external (Off-Campus).

  • Manage Recruitment-focal point for Band staff for logistics. Help students with scheduling, financial aid and provide all documents for scholarships, waivers and Grant Authorization Forms.

  • Manage database of auditions. Keep database and contact information for interested auditioned students. Work on Special Populations list for the University.

  • Manage travel for all University bands’ itinerary and logistics including hotel arrangements, negotiating transportation and coordinating meals for the band and staff. ​

  • Manage all band funding accounts in amount approximately $1.4 million for purchasing/procurement, scholarships, travel, staffing and the operational budget.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music.

  • Eight years of related experience with collegiate bands and/or choral programs.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various marching styles.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to conduct a concert band.

Other Requirements:

  • Travel required.

  • Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
