Job Summary: The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Asset Management Division (AMD), Central Services, Office of Facilities Management & Reliability, Facilities management (FM), Under Secretary for Finance & Administration at the Smithsonian Institution (SI). Major Duties:

  • The Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of policies and programs. In this position, you will: Plan, organize, direct, and oversee staff under three branches: Facilities Engineering & Assessments, Work Management & Technology, and Project Management. Exercise full supervisory and managerial authority; resolve serious complaints; approve or propose disciplinary actions; determine and approve training needs; authorize expenditures. Formulate policies that integrate facility administration, engineering, operational, financial, and compliance requirements into cohesive, enterprise level programs. Be responsible for managing facility programs and construction projects, including the development and execution of policies and procedures. Provides management oversight for a division that delivers centrally managed services across the entire geographically dispersed OFMR zones. Represent FM on facilities management matters and commit the organization to courses of action. Maintain strong customer and supplier relationships and employs participatory, negotiate problem-solving techniques to resolve issues. coordinate input, set priorities, and provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports.

Qualifications: Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience leading large, multi-disciplinary facilities programs, developing and implementing enterprise level policies, long range strategies; to maximize project, contracting, and program implementation; prioritizing requirements in support of strategic goals.
