Flexport is looking to hire an exceptional associate counsel. You will play a key role in providing organizational and substantive support to the Global Legal Team and will have the opportunity to build out new systems and procedures, work closely with attorneys, compliance and other teams within Flexport.

What you'll do:

  • Commercial Contracting & Contract Management:
    • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including logistics services agreements, vendor contracts, DPA’s and NDAs, with a pragmatic, business-focused approach.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for the business regarding contract questions, ensuring internal clients understand legal risks and processes and the regional lead for our CLM system, managing workflows, templates, and signing processes.
    • Identify opportunities to simplify contract review and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reduce friction for the sales team.
    • Advise on transport-specific legal matters, including carrier liability, freight forwarding terms, and claims handling. 
  • Data Privacy:
    • Serve as a primary legal contact for data privacy matters in the EMEA region, ensuring compliance with GDPR and local regulations.
  • Corporate and Employment Matters:
    • Provide day-to-day counsel on European employment law matters and support the People Operations team.
    • Work on new incorporations for Flexport expansion initiatives.
    • Support and manage (outside) counsel with ongoing corporate governance filings in Europe.
    • Proactively identify opportunities for improving processes in Flexport’s legal operations, as we continue to scale through incredible growth.
    • Support the implementation of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and supply chain due diligence regulations (e.g., CSDDD), which are increasingly critical in the EU logistics market and our customers.
    • Conduct legal research to stay ahead of regulatory changes affecting the logistics industry.

What you'll need:

  • Education: A law degree (LL.M. or Master’s) from a university in an EU jurisdiction.
  • Experience: 2–5 years of relevant experience, preferably a mix of a top-tier law firm and in-house experience.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English is a must.
    • Full proficiency in one additional European language is required (e.g., German, French, Spanish, Italian).
    • Proficiency in Dutch is a strong plus.
  • Technical Skills: 
    • Experience with Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) tools (e.g., DocuSign CLM, Ironclad) and a high degree of comfort with technology.
    • Excellent communication and project management skills, and the ability to work independently.
    • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Soft Skills:
    • A "business partner" mindset: You can assess risk while providing commercially sound advice.
    • The ability to work with team members at all levels, sometimes under pressure, while remaining proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Process-oriented: You see something broken and want to fix it.
    • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Industry Bonus: Prior experience in the logistics, supply chain, or transport sector is a significant plus.
