As a Contracts Counsel, you will join a team that will stretch your skills and position you for continued growth. You'll report to the Assistant General Counsel and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to help leading companies solve complex challenges, delivering high-quality solutions with consistency and care.
You’ll work independently and collaboratively to support capital projects and help implement solutions for our clients. In doing so, you’ll play a critical role in helping clients improve performance and achieve their most important goals.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide legal advice and support across contractual, commercial, insurance, and litigation matters
Review and negotiate design, engineering, EPC, design-build, and construction management contracts, subcontracts, bids, and equipment agreements
Analyze industry-standard contract forms (AIA, EJCDC, ConsensusDocs, DBIA) and owner-drafted contracts
Lead contract negotiations in coordination with the Assistant General Counsel, executive leadership, and project teams
Support the implementation of risk management and mitigation policies and procedures
Partner with clients, client legal teams, and internal client development teams to support business development and secure project opportunities
Advise teams on project selection risk, delivery methods, and alignment with commercial, legal, and risk management preferences
Manage project-related dispute resolution, including client discussions, liens, mediations, arbitrations, litigation, and settlement agreements
Coordinate dispute resolution strategies with leadership, insurers, and outside counsel
Manage the builder’s risk program
Maintain and update standard contract templates, forms, and legal resources
Collaborate closely with Design Group and Barry-Wehmiller safety teams to ensure safety policies and practices are appropriately addressed in contracts
Assist with labor and employment matters and coordinate resolution with outside counsel and insurers
Make a meaningful day-to-day impact by applying your legal expertise to strengthen client and team relationships
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
2+ years of legal experience
Active licensure in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
Experience in manufacturing or construction law, contract negotiation, and insurance matters within a law firm or in-house legal department (preferred)
Willingness to travel up to 15%
