India, Bengaluru, Karnataka Full time

Associate Correspondent:

We're looking for a talented, well-organized news hound to be a part of Reuters’ Bangalore newsroom.

The successful candidate will be a people person, a great communicator and, above all, should have a passion for news. With nearly 500 journalists, Bangalore is Reuters’ largest newsroom. It is at the centre of covering real-time news on companies, commodities, and economics.

Based on our requirements and the skills you bring to the table; the job could relate to any of the roles that we have across the production cycle of text-based news. Our job roles encompass everything along the development of a news story from headline alerting to reporting and editing to publishing. In many of these cases, Bangalore is the sole global hub or the leading producer of a type of job within Reuters offering some unique job profiles unavailable anywhere else in the organization. For example, Bangalore is the seat of Reuters’ company news headlines team for North America, UK, and the Asia Pacific region, and it’s also the global Publishing hub for Reuters, responsible for curating and packaging stories, pictures, graphics, and video for our financial readers. Add in the fact that we cover stories on everything from an iPhone launch to Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic sales; from economic polling on interest rates to the Indian budget, and you can expect to be a part of a bustling 24/7 bureau. Selected candidates could be tapped for these and other roles within the newsroom.

About the role:

Depending on the job, you could be expected to fulfil the following or more tasks:

  • Instantaneously turning around headlines alerts by reading and deciphering chunky or confusing text, such as press releases
  • Turning out quick wire-ready copy on breaking news, or write or break forward-looking stories informed by your development of relevant sources
  • Interviewing newsmakers or polling analysts to put out stories or polls • Data collection and ideating to creating graphics
  • Quickly subbing early story takes of breaking views, or editing (including guiding and if required, rewriting) later takes of breaking news and longer-lead enterprise stories
  • Curating and packaging the wire output (including stories, pictures, and video) to present the most relevant content to financial, media or consumer clients
  • Fact checking claims to keep several social media platforms free of misinformation

About You:

  • Work experience of at least one year and not more than 3 years is required.
  • A degree in Journalism or equivalent experience is preferred, but not a must. A fair knowledge of the world, related to economics, business, markets, politics, etc. is a desired trait; or at least the ability to quickly pick up such knowledge is required.
  • Solid news judgment and the ability to think clearly and express that cleanly is also a must. Good grammar, spelling and punctuation skills is expected.
  • Shift work is a given depending on the role, with shifts starting as early as 6 AM and as late as 11 PM. The work week is 5 days (but this could include weekends).
