Associate, Compliance (Shanghai)

The Opportunity

GLG is seeking an experienced professional for the role of Compliance Associate in our Shanghai office.  The individual will be part of GLGs 50+-person global compliance department and would be required to provide timely and thoughtful support for business colleagues in our APAC offices.  In this role you will develop strong actionable business skills – including time management, prioritization, communication, negotiation, problem solving, and project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advisory & Implementation: Master and apply GLG’s global compliance framework. You will be responsible for implementing internal compliance framework and client’s own rules and policies. 
  • Risk Evaluation: Review and evaluate the appropriateness of expert engagements. You must be able to identify "red flags" and navigate compliance issues that require deep-dive review and assessment.
  • Strategic Problem Solving: Apply a practical, solution-oriented approach to complex problems, delivering insightful advice to the business under tight deadlines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a primary point of contact for GLG experts and clients including in-house counsel and compliance officers.
  • Training & Mentorship: Lead compliance training sessions for internal teams and assist in training content development. 

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: 2–4 years of experience in a professional compliance, legal, or risk management role. Candidates with a legal background will be prioritized.
  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrated ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of solutions or approaches.
  • Language Proficiency: Full professional fluency in both English and Mandarin (written and verbal) is mandatory.
  • Operational Excellence: Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize a high volume of requests in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal Impact: Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships based on mutual trust and respect.
  • Curiosity: An eagerness to learn about diverse industries and nuanced topics across the global economy.
