The ACOS-Inpatient, OR, and Procedures will oversee several services within the Chief of Staff service line. Clinical Duties: The ACOS-Inpatient, OR, and Procedures is expected to remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field. The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Healthcare Delivery Committee. Education: The ACOS-Inpatient, OR, and Procedures is expected to show effectiveness in teaching, participate in educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision. Educational, precepting, and mentoring duties may include clinical supervision fellows, medical students and residents, supervision and mentoring of APRN's and PA's formal and informal teaching of fellows, medical students and residents when on rotation. This includes supervision in clinic as well as formal lectures or case discussions; identification and recruitment of promising trainees and providing mentorship in developing skills in research and scholarly activities. Administrative Duties: 1. Demonstrates ability to represent the Chief of Staff in all aspects of administrative leadership, including, but not limited to: Serve as a member of key health care system managerial bodies including serving as a member of the organized medical staff, attending its meetings, and helping to ensure adherence to its bylaws and rules and regulations, working with other health care professional to establish policies so that all health care professionals practice within the scope of their licenses, and participating in in-service training programs. The incumbent will serve as COS Office liaison to the quality management program through active participation as a member of performance measure meetings. 2. Demonstrates the ability to supervise a staff of employees to accomplish the work of the organization. This involves work assignments and review; as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised - e.g., leave administration, labor management requirements, adverse, disciplinary actions, proficiencies, etc. 3. Demonstrates the ability to coordinate and integrate programs into a comprehensive package of services to meet the needs of veterans by participating in establishing policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure adequate, comprehensive services. 4. Responsible for actively participating as a member of the Health Care Delivery Council and is responsible for the performance measures assigned to the ACOS-Inpatient, OR, and Procedures. 5. Demonstrates ability to provide assistance on top management administrative matters affecting patient care, education, research and organizational policy. 6. Demonstrates ability to contribute to the strategic mission, vision, values, and goals of the White River Junction VAMC. 7. Will participate in local, VISN and national level committees as assigned by Chief of Staff. Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm M-F

Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English.
