ING

Associate - CEM Capital Management

TRC (Amsterdam - Treasury Center) Full time

Your work environment

Financial Markets (FM) is the Bank’s gateway to the professional markets around the world. Our primary function is to service the needs of ING’s clients with products, services and guidance. FM aims to be a significant player in our market leader and challenger markets, with an additional presence in all the major international markets and specialist expertise in selected emerging markets and products.

Your role

This vacancy is for a Capital Management Expert within the Credit Exposure Management (CEM) team, located in the dealing room in Amsterdam. As part of a team of capital experts, you will contribute to enhancing capital efficiency across the FM portfolio. You will analyze, forecast, and manage the capital impact of counterparty credit and trading exposures, valuation adjustments, and regulatory changes. Your insights will support strategic decision-making, pricing, and risk mitigation, ensuring that capital consumption aligns with ING’s risk appetite and return thresholds.

The team

The Credit Exposure Management (CEM) team is a multidisciplinary group within ING Financial Markets, responsible for measuring and managing counterparty credit risk across the trading business. Beyond risk quantification and management, the team plays a central role in overseeing the funding and capital implications of these exposures. CEM operates at the intersection of Trading, Risk, Treasury, and Finance, ensuring that credit risk is not only well understood but also efficiently priced, hedged, funded, and capitalized. The team’s mandate spans regulatory capital optimization, valuation adjustments (e.g., CVA, FVA), collateral strategy, and liquidity management.

Your key responsibilities

In this position, you will support the team’s efforts to manage and optimize capital usage across the FM business. You’ll work closely with senior specialists and stakeholders, contributing to analysis, execution, and continuous improvement of capital-related processes.

Capital Forecasting & Analysis:

  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing models used to forecast market risk, default and CVA capital under regulatory frameworks such as FRTB-SA, SA-CCR, IMM and SA-CVA.
  • Support the identification of capital-intensive exposures and contribute to the development of mitigation strategies.

Regulatory Monitoring & Interpretation:

  • Track relevant regulatory developments and assist in assessing their impact on FM capital requirements.
  • Help translate regulatory changes into practical implications for trading desks and internal reporting.

Capital-Efficient Risk Management:

  • Support the execution of hedging strategies aimed at reducing capital consumption, including CDS.
  • Collaborate with the XVA Trading and Funding teams to ensure alignment across credit, funding, and capital risk dimensions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work with Trading, Risk and Finance to gather input and share insights on capital-related matters.
  • Contribute to internal discussions and initiatives aimed at improving capital efficiency and transparency
