Job Summary

The Associate Application Owner supports the management, operation, and performance of open banking applications within Absa Bank (Mauritius) Limited. This role assists in ensuring that the open banking solutions are stable, secure, and aligned with business objectives. The Associate Application Owner works closely with the Application Owner and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality open banking experiences, while gaining exposure to application lifecycle management, project delivery, and customer-focused solutions.

Job Description

Application Management & Availability

  • Application Management & Support

    • Monitor application performance, incidents, and system alerts.

    • Support the resolution of technical and operational issues, escalating when necessary.

    • Maintain application documentation, configuration records, and operational procedures.

    • Ensure that the open banking applications have appropriate resilience in place and same is tested on a regular agreed frequency

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with business units to gather requirements, assess opportunities for innovation, and implement improvements to the open banking platforms.

    • Act as second-level support for internal users regarding open banking applications, addressing issues escalated by the helpdesk.

    • Analyze incidents and coordinate with vendors or technical teams to resolve problems.

    • Escalate unresolved or critical issues to the Application Owner for further attention.

    • Support user training materials and basic guidance documentation.

  • Application Optimization & Support
    • Monitor the performance and stability of open banking applications, addressing any technical or operational issues promptly.

    • Ensure high availability (in line with agreed service levels) with KPIs measured and monitored on an ongoing basis.

    • Ensure scalability and security of concerned banking solutions.

    • Participate in post-implementation reviews and suggest areas for improvement.

  • Vendor & Partner Management
    • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and external partners to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met and fixes and enhancements are delivered on time.

Projects and Initiatives

  • Assist in preparing project documentation, user stories, and test plans.

  • Support project delivery by coordinating with technical teams and stakeholders.

  • Help track progress, deadlines, and deliverables under the guidance of the Application Owner.

Customer Experience

  • Always have a “Customer” first attitude and ensure all customer queries/calls are attended to on priority.

  • Assist in driving enhancements to improve the user experience (UX) and ensure digital banking platforms are customer centric.

  • Participate in internal brain-storming sessions for development of new products and services or amendment to existing services

Test Management

  • Participate in functional, regression, and integration testing of application changes.

  • Document testing results and highlight discrepancies for resolution.

Personal Development

  • Responsible for driving own Performance Development, collating relevant documentation, preparing for and arranging reviews.

  • By utilizing skills matrix, identify training and development requirements, formulating own plan to be agreed with team leader. Responsible for ensuring own plan is completed within agreed timescales.

  • Undertake training to understand open banking applications, processes, and regulatory requirements.

  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies and trends in Open banking as well as Digital Banking and how to integrate in the Absa environment

  • Work under guidance to gradually take on more responsibility and build expertise.

Risk Management

  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to the Open banking applications

  • Contribute and deliver to the improvement of the risk profile of the function by delivering improved governance, risk management, controls, and compliance requirements.

Mandatory Risk and Control objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role

Role/Person Specification

Preferred Education & Preferred Experience:

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent of 7 years related experience.

  • 4–5 years’ experience in IT support, application management, open banking, digital banking, or financial technology.  

  • Some exposure to working with cross-functional teams preferred, with willingness to support project delivery and operational activities.

  • Strong willingness to learn, take guidance, and progressively develop responsibility.

Technical Skills:

  • Basic understanding of banking applications and platforms.

  • Basic understanding of the Open Banking Framework

  • Familiarity with testing processes, incident management, and documentation practices.

  • Exposure to APIs, cloud platforms, or application security is a plus.

  • Coding and scripting skills (e.g. Python, NodeJS, SQL,..) to assist in automation, data extraction, or application enhancements is a plus.

  • Cloud Certification preferred (e.g. AWS, Azure…)

Soft Skills:

  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

  • Customer-focused and responsive to operational needs.

  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability for supporting operational or testing tasks.
