Assistant Professor of ESL (Non-Tenure Track)

Position Summary

The Assistant Professor of English as a Second Language (ESL) at the Embry-Riddle Language Institute (ERLI) is a non-tenure track, full-time faculty position dedicated to high-quality instruction and student success. The faculty member’s primary responsibilities are teaching, advising, and contributing to curriculum delivery in alignment with ERLI’s mission and accreditation standards. Non-tenure track faculty are vital members of the academic community and are appointed on renewable contracts based on performance and program need.

Primary Responsibilities

Teaching & Teaching-Related Duties

  • Organize instructional planning according to objectives in the ERLI curriculum.
  • Oversee the continuous improvement of courses to strengthen content and ensure coverage of all curricula.
  • Complete and submit syllabi, course plans, diagnostic and final exams, Early & Midterm Alerts, and other required documents by established due dates.
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance records in the online system.
  • Keep grade records and report grades weekly.
  • Assess student academic progress on an ongoing basis using sufficient and appropriate measures.
  • Provide academic advisement for ERLI students, including coursework support, academic intervention, and success strategies.
  • Contribute positively to student success through supportive philosophy, professional attitude, and consistent performance.

Service & Engagement

  • Participate in required ERLI faculty meetings and serve on committees as appropriate.
  • Support departmental initiatives that strengthen instructional quality, student experience, and program development.

Professional Development

  • Participate in professional development activities as required in the ERLI Faculty Professional Development Policy.
  • Remain current in the field of TESOL/Applied Linguistics through readings, workshops, and other professional activities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or closely related field
  • Minimum 2 years of postsecondary ESL/EAP teaching experience, preferably in an intensive English program
  • Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and academic advising
  • Familiarity with instructional technology and hybrid/online teaching
  • Native or near-native oral and written English fluency
  • Strong intercultural communication skills and sensitivity to the needs of international students
  • Evidence of effective instructional planning, assessment, and record keeping

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience teaching EFL abroad
  • Experience teaching remotely via Zoom or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with Canvas or other learning management systems
  • Experience presenting and/or publishing in the TESOL field
  • TESOL Certificate (100+ class hours plus monitored practicum)
  • Active membership in local or national TESOL professional associations
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
