Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Bloomfield College of Montclair State University’s Creative Arts and Technology Program Area invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Game Design to begin August 28, 2026.

We welcome applicants with diverse creative backgrounds who are comfortable teaching game design at all levels. We’re looking for a game creator with a portfolio of released work, whether commercial, indie, or artistic, who brings creative and technical expertise, adapts to diverse learning environments, and demonstrates innovative gameplay and storytelling practices. While this position’s focus is teaching and research, there may be opportunities to contribute to program leadership roles in the future, such as Program or Area Coordinator, depending on interest, experience, and program needs.

Relevant areas of expertise may include (but are not limited to): game programming, extended reality, artificial intelligence for games, game design, game art and animation, narrative design, game history and studies, business of games, music for games, and spatial and interaction design.

Faculty are expected to draw on their professional experience to foster an inclusive, supportive learning community and contribute to an evolving curriculum.

PROGRAM AREA DESCRIPTION

The Creative Arts & Technology Program Area at Bloomfield College (CAT) is dedicated to educating our students to be socially conscious and creative individuals, and to teaching skills that can make an impact on our global and transcultural society. CAT cultivates an interdisciplinary and collaborative real-world work environment that prepares our students for opportunities in an evolving world that needs creative problem-solvers. CAT offers a BA in Creative Arts & Technology with Concentrations in 2D Animation, 3D Animation, Game Dev Design, Graphic Design, and Music Technology, as well as a BS in Game Programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

● Teach undergraduate courses in game design and game programming.

● Supplement teaching needs by offering instruction in CAT’s foundational courses, as well as courses in animation, design, or related fields depending on expertise.

● Contribute to our program area course and curriculum development as well as  assessment.

● Advise CAT majors.

● Actively engage in departmental and university service activities.

● Contribute to the mission of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University as a PBI and HSI through teaching, mentoring, departmental, and community engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS: ASSISTANT/ ASSOCIATE

Required

○ Terminal degree in a relevant field (MFA, MPS, etc.)

○ Demonstrated creative practice and/or research in game design with released work.

○ Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate courses in game design, game programming, and related areas.

○ Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

○ Commitment to inclusive, equity-forward teaching practices.

Preferred

○ Expertise in one or more fields such as extended reality, artificial intelligence for games, game studies, narrative design, or game art/animation.

QUALIFICATIONS: ASSOCIATE

Required

○ Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level.

○ Record of professional achievement, leadership, and creative/research scholarship in game design or related fields.

STARTING DATE     August 28, 2026

Salary Range

$77,083.89-$98,816.84 Annually
