Job Description:
PURPOSE:
The Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs serves as a central leader in academic operations, policy integrity, and faculty instructional support at LSU of Alexandria. This position supports key work of Academic Affairs: advancing teaching excellence across modalities, supporting faculty success, and facilitating instructional processes aligned with university priorities. The Assistant Vice Provost provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for academic program review processes, faculty support and pedagogical development, and academic policy implementation across the institution.
This position is an on-campus, 12-month academic administrative role reporting directly to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Instructional Leadership & Academic Operations
Serve as a member of academic leadership teams, including the Deans/Directors Council, advising the Provost on instructional strategy and resource needs.
Coordinate institutional course scheduling processes and ensure effective management of faculty load and adjunct pool utilization.
Advise the Provost on faculty workload distribution and departmental instructional support priorities.
Support and supervise Dual Enrollment programming in coordination with academic departments.
II. Faculty Development & Support
Oversee faculty onboarding, mentoring programs, promotion and tenure support, and long-term faculty career development initiatives.
Provide oversight and facilitation of faculty development plans and professional improvement processes.
Collaborate with the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and Educational Technology & Learning (ETL) to support instructional design, pedagogical innovation, and professional development programming.
Coordinate university-wide processes for adjunct faculty support and evaluation
Ill. Curriculum, Assessment & Academic Policy
Coordinate institutional academic policy processes, including oversight of the systematic review and update of academic policies
Oversee academic program review processes at the institutional level.
Lead institutional academic assessment strategy in collaboration with departments and accreditation leadership.
Facilitate the collection and analysis of institutional data in collaboration with Institutional Research and Effectiveness that reflect academic quality and student outcomes, including student course evaluations, course success (non-DFW) rates, and related performance metrics, to support continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making.
Facilitate best practices and oversee policies and processes related to academic integrity and academic misconduct.
IV. Instructional Innovation & Technology Alignment
Work in partnership with academic units and Distance Learning to align instructional technology, online learning strategy, and faculty instructional resources with academic priorities.
Support innovation in instructional delivery to support requirements for Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) across instructional modalities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A successful candidate for the position of Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Affairs will hold the following qualifications:
Earned doctorate (terminal degree) from a regionally accredited institution, with expertise in academic pedagogy and instructional support.
Successful academic leadership/administrative experience.
Demonstrated experience in accreditation processes, academic policy review, institutional effectiveness, and program assessment.
Proven leadership in faculty development and pedagogical innovation, including support for teaching excellence and evidence-based practices.
Experience advancing student success initiatives, particularly those tied to instructional quality.
HOURS:
Eight (8) hours per day, Monday- Friday; 40 hours per week. Additional hours worked as needed.
