The Assistant Vice President, Strategy Execution will serve as the primary execution and delivery partner to the Head of Legal Supplier Strategy & Performance. This role is responsible for translating strategic priorities into structured programs and projects, driving disciplined execution across technology implementations, process improvements, and transformation initiatives impacting Legal’s external supplier ecosystem.
This is a hands‑on PMO role with accountability for delivery outcomes. The AVP will own end‑to‑end project governance, execution cadence, risk and dependency management, and performance reporting, while coordinating closely with Legal, Technology, Risk, Procurement, and Finance partners. The role is designed to ensure strategy does not stall in design—but is implemented with pace, control, and measurable impact.
Strategy Execution & Program Delivery
Act as execution lead for the Legal Supplier Strategy & Performance roadmap, converting priorities into executable programs, workplans, and delivery milestones
Drive implementation of new legal technologies (e.g., supplier‑facing platforms, analytics, automation) from kickoff through stabilization
Oversee multi‑workstream initiatives spanning process redesign, operating model changes, and supplier engagement enhancements
Ensure initiatives deliver intended outcomes related to cost control, performance transparency, cycle time, and risk discipline
PMO Governance & Discipline
Establish and maintain PMO governance standards, including charters, timelines, RAID logs, interdependency tracking, and stage‑gate reviews
Lead execution cadence: weekly operating reviews, executive readouts, issue escalation, and decision tracking
Identify delivery risks early and actively drive mitigation plans across stakeholders
Coordinate closely with enterprise and technology PMOs to align on funding, sequencing, and delivery standards
Process & Operating Model Improvement
Lead process mapping, pain‑point analysis, and redesign efforts related to supplier onboarding, billing, performance management, and data flows
Partner with functional leads to define future‑state processes and translate them into executable change plans
Ensure process improvements are embedded into day‑to‑day operations, not treated as one‑time projects
Stakeholder & Cross‑Functional Coordination
Serve as central point of coordination across Legal, IT, Risk, Procurement, Compliance, and Finance for supplier‑related initiatives
Manage execution handoffs between strategy owners, technical teams, and operational teams
Prepare clear, concise materials for senior leadership to support informed decisions and timely escalation
Reporting & Performance Management
Develop and maintain execution dashboards covering milestones, risks, spend, dependencies, and realized benefits
Track delivery against business cases and transformation objectives
Support leadership with disciplined progress reporting for governance forums and executive reviews
Required
7+ years of experience in PMO strategy execution, or large‑scale program management
Deep understanding of outside counsel operating models, including billing workflows, e‑billing technology, and data produced by those systems, with experience using that foundation to drive process improvement and transformation.
Demonstrated success leading cross‑functional initiatives with strong delivery accountability
Strong grounding in project management disciplines (planning, governance, risk control, dependency management, financial tracking)
Experience implementing technology‑enabled change and operational process improvements
Proven ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, global organization
Preferred
Experience supporting legal, compliance, risk, or other highly regulated environments
Familiarity with supplier management, vendor performance, or cost management initiatives
Exposure to legal technology, analytics platforms, or AI‑enabled solutions
PMP, PgMP, or comparable certification a plus
Critical Skills & Attributes
Execution‑oriented mindset with a strong bias toward delivery
Structured thinker with exceptional organizational and follow‑through skills
Ability to manage ambiguity while imposing discipline on execution
Strong written and verbal communication, particularly in executive and governance settings
Confidence operating with senior leaders while remaining hands‑on with day‑to‑day delivery
Role Positioning
This role does not own supplier strategy or policy. It owns execution—ensuring that priorities are delivered on time, risks are actively managed, and transformation initiatives translate into real operational change.
