MUFG is hiring an Assistant Vice President for Regulatory and Financial Reporting to join its Finance team in Kuala Lumpur. This role focuses on leading regulatory and finance change initiatives that strengthen financial governance, improve efficiency, and support evolving system requirements. You will work closely with Finance, Technology, Operations, and Business stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet regulatory expectations while supporting wider business objectives.
What you'll do:
As an Assistant Vice President for Regulatory and Financial Reporting, you will lead finance‑related initiatives including regulatory‑driven change, system implementations, and process improvements. You will manage multiple projects concurrently, defining scope, timelines, and deliverables, while coordinating stakeholders across Finance, IT, Operations, Compliance, Risk, and Business teams.
You will track project progress, escalate issues where appropriate, and provide regular updates to management. A key part of the role involves translating complex regulatory and accounting requirements into practical actions, supporting automation and digitalisation initiatives, and contributing to finance system changes including user acceptance testing. You will also liaise with Group teams, auditors, and external advisors, ensuring strong governance, documentation, and control standards are maintained throughout.
Lead and manage finance‑related projects including regulatory initiatives, system implementations, process re‑engineering, and finance transformation programmes.
Define project scope, timelines, deliverables, dependencies, and risks to ensure timely, high‑quality execution.
Coordinate cross‑functional stakeholders across Finance, IT, Operations, Compliance, Risk, and Business units to ensure effective governance and delivery.
Track project progress, escalate issues as needed, and provide regular updates to Finance and Senior Management.
Support implementation of regulatory requirements from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), including new reporting mandates, policy changes, and supervisory findings.
Translate regulatory and accounting requirements (e.g. MFRS/IFRS) into practical project actions, system changes, and process enhancements.
Partner with Regulatory Reporting, Financial Reporting, Compliance, and Risk teams to ensure outcomes meet regulatory and audit standards.
Drive process improvements by reducing manual effort and enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and controls through automation and digitalisation.
Participate in or lead finance system initiatives such as core banking or data warehouse projects; act as SME during change requests and UAT.
Liaise with Group/Head Office teams, auditors, and external consultants; prepare clear documentation including impact assessments and management papers.
What you bring:
You have at least five years of experience in banking or financial services, with a background in audit or regulatory reporting. You hold a relevant bachelor’s degree and professional qualifications such as ACCA or CPA. Your understanding of banking finance, MFRS/IFRS standards, and Malaysia’s regulatory environment allows you to navigate complex requirements confidently.
You have experience managing cross‑functional initiatives and working with multiple stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills enable you to drive process improvements, enhance controls, and support automation efforts. You communicate effectively with senior management, auditors, and internal teams, and bring a structured, detail‑oriented approach when managing multiple priorities.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business is required for this position along with professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, ICAEW or CFA being highly advantageous.
Minimum five years’ experience in finance roles related to audit or regulatory reporting within the banking or financial services industry is essential for success.
Exposure to regulatory-driven change initiatives or finance system projects is strongly preferred especially if combined with Big 4 audit or consulting experience.
Strong understanding of banking finance principles including MFRS/IFRS standards as well as familiarity with Malaysia’s regulatory environment is crucial.
Experience managing projects involving multiple stakeholders across different departments demonstrates your ability to foster collaboration effectively.
Excellent analytical skills paired with problem-solving abilities allow you to translate complex requirements into practical solutions that benefit the organisation.
Good working knowledge of data management systems plus process controls within finance ensures you can support automation efforts efficiently.
Outstanding communication skills coupled with stakeholder management expertise help you build trustful relationships across teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—especially Excel and PowerPoint—is necessary for preparing reports or presentations related to project progress.
Structured approach combined with attention to detail makes you control-conscious while handling multiple initiatives in a dynamic setting.
