The Opportunity:

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for System Brand Marketing serves as the Washington State University (WSU) system’s senior brand and marketing strategist. In partnership with the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Communications, the AVP for System Brand Marketing will be responsible for advancing WSU’s reputation, visibility, and engagement across Washington and beyond.

Reporting to the Vice President for System Communications and Strategy, the AVP leads enterprise-level brand marketing strategy, creative direction, and integrated campaign execution that elevate the university’s priorities.
 

The AVP provides leadership for brand management, creative services, digital marketing, and market research, ensuring that all expressions of the WSU brand are consistent, contemporary, and compelling. The position collaborates closely with partners across Enrollment Management, Advancement, Athletics, and academic units to position WSU as a national leader among modern land-grant institutions.

Additional Information:

This is a full (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime exempt.

Monthly Salary: $15,000-$20,000 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in the appropriate administrative/professional area. A Master’s degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.  A Juris Doctor degree may be required for selected positions. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • A minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in brand marketing or strategic communications, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven ability to develop and execute integrated marketing strategies in large, complex organizations.

  • Demonstrated success in leading creative teams an managing agency relationships.

  • Strong analytical and strategic-thinking skills with a deep understanding of digital marketing and data-driven decision-making.

  • Excellent writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in marketing, communications, or business.

  • Experiences in higher education or a mission-driven organization with a multi-campus structure.

  • Knowledge of Washington State University's land-grant mission and statewide impact.

  • Expertise in market research, brand positioning, and digital transformation initiatives.
