The Assistant Vice President for Financial Planning and Analysis (AVP-FP&A) provides strategic leadership and oversight for the university’s financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical functions. This role ensures alignment of financial resources with institutional priorities, supports data-driven decision-making, and enhances financial sustainability. The AVP reports to the Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and collaborates closely with academic and administrative leaders.

The position is located on the main campus in Stephenville, Texas with in-office workhours of Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm or as work requirements indicate, which may include afterhours, evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Planning

  • Lead development of multi-year financial plans aligned with the university’s strategic goals.

  • Conduct scenario modeling and long-range forecasting to support executive decision-making.

Budget Development and Oversight

  • Direct the annual operating and capital budgeting process.

  • Ensure transparency and collaboration with colleges, departments, and administrative units.

  • Monitor budget performance and recommend corrective actions as needed.

Financial Analysis and Reporting

  • Provide comprehensive financial analyses to support resource allocation and strategic initiatives.

  • Prepare reports for senior leadership and other stakeholders to clearly communicate financial results and forecasts.

  • Develop dashboards and KPIs for ongoing financial performance monitoring.

Data and Systems Management

  • Oversee financial planning systems and tools to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

  • Partner with IT and institutional research to integrate financial data with enrollment and academic metrics.

  • In collaboration with University partners, create and maintain financial forecast models and budget development models.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor FP&A team members.

  • Create and monitor communication mechanisms to ensure that academic and administrative leaders are fully supported by FP&A team members.

  • Serve as a key advisor to the CFO and executive leadership on financial strategy.

  • Collaborate with academic leaders to align financial planning with programmatic priorities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

  • Education: Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field required; CPA or CFA preferred.

  • Experience: Five (5) years of related experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in higher education or a complex organization.

Preferred Experience: 8–10 years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in higher education or a complex organization. Experience with Responsibility-Centered Management (RCM) budget models and Anaplan, or similar planning software, are desired.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Salary Range:

The target base annual salary is commensurate and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
