Major Duties:

  • This posting is for an Assistant United States Attorney to serve in the Criminal Division in the Cedar Rapids office. All AUSAs in the Northern District of Iowa handle a broad range of criminal prosecutions and investigations. If selected for this position, you will focus on white-collar crimes, such as fraud, money laundering, national security offenses, and telecommunications offenses. You may also be assigned matters such as drug, firearms, immigration, child exploitation, and violent-crime offenses. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction). United States citizenship is required. AUSAs do their own legal research and writing and must be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings. You must be proficient in the use of computers. Preferred Qualifications: You will be a preferred applicant if you have: Experience prosecuting federal or white-collar crimes or as a federal law clerk with significant responsibility for criminal cases; Excellent oral and written advocacy skills; Excellent interpersonal skills, including experience working with multi-agency task forces and other law-enforcement officials; Experience with federal grand-jury practice; and Experience preparing appellate briefs and presenting appellate arguments. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
