Job Summary: The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Southern District of Georgia is seeking applications from experienced attorneys who have a strong criminal prosecution background to fill an Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) vacancy within the Criminal Division in the Augusta, Georgia branch office. This is an open announcement that will remain open until filled or 4/3/2026. Qualified applicants will be referred to selecting officials at 1-week intervals.

Major Duties:

  • AUSAs in the Criminal Division are responsible for the prosecution of a variety of crimes under federal law including but not limited to violent crime, fraud, public corruption, illegal immigration, possession of child pornography, human trafficking, drug violations, firearms violations, terrorism, and asset forfeiture. The qualified applicant will be expected to (a) lead federal law enforcement agents in structuring and executing criminal investigative strategies and plans; (b) actively participate in grand jury proceedings, including the introduction of evidence and presentation of witnesses; and (c) litigate cases of moderate to high complexity, from charging to sentencing, with limited supervision. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required.
