Major Duties:

• Overview of the United States Attorney's Office-Northern District of Indiana- The United States Attorney's Office is the chief law enforcement office in the district and is responsible for representing the federal government in virtually all litigation involving the United States in the Northern District of Indiana. This includes criminal prosecutions for violations of federal law, civil lawsuits by and against the government, and actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers. The U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Northern District of Indiana is one of 94 USAOs in the nation. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana is currently soliciting applications for positions as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) in the Criminal Division. Criminal AUSAs work closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to investigate federal crimes. AUSAs then prosecute such crimes through every stage of litigation, from charging, discovery, and motions practice to trial, sentencing, and post-conviction challenges. They also develop broader initiatives to disrupt and deter criminal activity throughout the district. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. The duty location will be determined based on the selected applicants, with duty locations in Fort Wayne, Hammond, and South Bend. Hammond, Indiana is located in Northwest Indiana. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should possess a strong worth ethic, good judgment, and excellent ability in legal research, analysis, writing, communication, and advocacy.
