The Opportunity

We are currently looking for an Assistant Underwriter to join our UK Motor team in London.

Our Motor Fleet Underwriting team supports a wide range of UK businesses that rely on their vehicle fleets to operate day‑to‑day. The team underwrites established commercial fleets across a variety of trades, combining strong technical foundations with a pragmatic, customer‑focused approach.

As an Assistant Underwriter, you’ll play a key role in supporting the team across underwriting and operational tasks.  With support from experienced colleagues, this is a fantastic chance to grow your underwriting career in a collaborative and specialist environment.

Your New Role

  • Underwrite business in accordance with the business plan and within our UK and European business.
  • Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
  • Contribute to the recording and measurement of insurance risks to ensure accuracy and good practice
  • Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to increase exposure in the market.
  • Develop knowledge of market dynamics and market cycles to be able to support business performance.
  • Underwrite insurance risks to meet business objectives including negotiating rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business, ensuring production and issue of contract certainty documentation and supporting credit control in payment collection.
  • Support the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress towards business objectives

  

About you

  • Data‑savvy mindset - able to use data and insights to support sound underwriting decisions.
  • Digitally confident - comfortable using modern systems, tools and emerging technology, including AI‑enabled platforms.
  • Customer‑focused and collaborative - balances technical risk awareness with strong service and broker relationships.
  • Commercial awareness - understands how underwriting decisions impact portfolio performance and business outcomes.
  • Growth‑driven and resilient – keen to learn, adapt and thrive in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Underwriting knowledge - Previous experience in an underwriting support role and / or knowledge of UK Motor insurance would be useful

Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role.  QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.
