As an Assistant Teacher Level 3 (ATL3), you’ll lead small-group and whole-group lessons, co-teach full time, and cover classrooms during teacher absences. What will you be doing? 

  • Lead small-group and whole-group lessons aligned with NJ State Standards and the school curriculum.
  • Co-teach full time alongside the lead teacher and cover classrooms during teacher absences.
  • Support differentiated instruction and provide targeted interventions to meet diverse learner needs.
  • Monitor, assess, and grade student work to inform instruction and support scholar growth.
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement, safety, and achievement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, school leadership, and families to support scholar success and strengthen home–school partnerships.
  • Participate in professional development, coaching, and mentorship to enhance instructional skills and progress toward full NJ teacher certification by the end of the school year.
  • Reflect on practice, apply feedback, and stay current on best practices in literacy, classroom management, and culturally responsive teaching.

What do we require from you?

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • NJ substitute certification required
  • Must provide proof of scheduled exams or enrollment in a Praxis preparation program by start date
  • Must provide proof of NJ certification by March
  • Familiarity with Trenton’s community and educational landscape.
  • Experience teaching in a high-performing, fast-paced, urban school setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management
