WRE SE has an Assistant Section Manager (S01) opening, within the Payloads, Mission, Analysis, Configuration & Comm Systems  (PMACCS) Center. The Assistant Section Manager (ASM) is a dual-hat Engineering Manager responsible for both section management (15%-20% of time) and existing program responsibilities (80%-85% or more of time). Along with reporting into a program, the ASM is also a member of the WRE SE Functional Management Organization. The ASM will report to the National Systems department within PMACCS that focuses on communications systems engineers working in restricted space programs.

The ASM shall be the functional management point of contact at the work site for an assigned section of employees, primarily managing a team of early career T grades (i.e., T01, T02, and early career T03s). The ASM will support and implement Space Systems initiatives, reporting directly to an S03 Department Manager. The ASM is responsible for flow down of information to their employees and will lead and participate in Section Meetings.   

This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA and is a fully onsite role.

  

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Perform resource planning and staffing 
  • Employee Engagement & Retention 
  • Staff development, including skills training and career support 
  • Performance management, including employee goal setting, annual reviews, and issues resolution 
  • Deployment, measurement, and improvement of tailored, lean-agile, Space Systems processes and procedures and supporting product cost reduction strategies 
  • Candidate to perform these duties while also performing on program SOW (80%-90%) 

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5+ years of engineering experience OR 
  • Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience OR 
  • PhD in a STEM + 1 year (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline with no engineering experience required 
  • Demonstrated experience or education in comm systems
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance and Active SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) at time of application

 
Preferred Qualifications:  

  • MS in Electrical Engineering (with an emphasis in communications) or other STEM degree 
  • Demonstrated experience in comm systems engineering and requirements & Space Systems Programs 
  • Previous experience as a manager or leading teams 
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all involved employees

Primary Level Salary Range: $133,000.00 - $199,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
