Assistant Project Manager

Peterborough Full time

Salary starting from £41k, salary depending on skills and experience

12 month fixed-term contract - potential opportunity for the role to be made permanent

Full time with flexibility for part-time

Location: Peterborough

Anglian Water offers a flexible approach, this role provides you with hybrid working. Your base location will either be in our Peterborough office with the expectation of being in the office 2-3 days a week.

Play a key role in shaping the future of our water infrastructure.

As part of Anglian Water’s draft Water Resources Management Plan 2024, significant challenges were identified for the East of England. It is estimated that by 2050 we will have 38% less water to supply our customers. To address this long-term demand deficit, we are developing a programme of desalination, with up to four projects to be delivered in our region, some as early as 2034.

We’re on the lookout for a proactive and ambitious Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of one of Anglian Water’s most exciting infrastructure programmes.

This role is central to the development of major projects and offers a fantastic opportunity to grow your career in project management. Working closely with the Project Manager, you’ll be at the heart of day-to-day project delivery — helping to steer the RAPID process and ensure everything stays on track, on budget, and delivered to a high standard. You’ll take ownership of smaller work packages, contribute to regulatory and governance activities, and collaborate with a wide range of internal teams and external consultants. As these projects move from concept and design to delivery, you’ll gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle.

What we’re looking for:

  • A quick learner with strong IT skills

  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and full of initiative

  • A confident communicator who builds strong relationships

  • Able to thrive working remotely with a flexible, can-do attitude

This is more than just a support role — it’s your chance to make an impact, work on projects that matter, and develop your skills in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting the management of project schedules, budgets, and deliverables

  • Producing and maintaining project documentation, including risk and change reports

  • Monitoring progress and cost reporting, ensuring clarity for internal stakeholders

  • Leading smaller workstreams and supporting regular project reviews

  • Assisting with regulatory reporting and stakeholder engagement

  • Contributing to governance processes and preparing documentation for key meetings

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their project management skills in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, with exposure to large-scale, regulated infrastructure programmes.
