Position Description:

The Department of Engineering Fundamentals at the University of Louisville invites applications for a Teaching-Track (Term) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor beginning May 1, 2026.  The Department of Engineering Fundamental is a non-degree granting department that teaches primarily first and second year engineering students.  Student success and retention are central to the focus of the department.  The department teaches introduction to engineering, engineering graphics, and mathematics. The successful candidate will be a member of the instructional team that teaches mathematics courses for engineering students.  Mathematics courses include: calculus, differential equations, numerical methods, and linear algebra; all taught by the engineering college for undergraduate engineering students.  Department faculty work in highly collaborative instructional teams that share course materials, assessments, grading, and work together to continuously improve courses and instruction through evidence-based teaching.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Engineering, Mathematics or a related field

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills, including working with students from a variety of backgrounds

  • Some relevant experience teaching mathematics to undergraduate STEM students

  • Genuine interest in cooperating with other instructors as part of a teaching team

  • Commitment to high-quality teaching and student success

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Engineering or Mathematics

  • Experience teaching first-year college students or a similar population

  • Experience using active learning and other evidence-based teaching practices

  • Experience with continuous course improvement through scholarship of teaching and learning

Department Information

Established in 2007, the Engineering Fundamentals Department is comprised of faculty who teach common core courses taken by all entering engineering students.  In their first four semesters, engineering students take 18 hours of courses from the Department of Engineering Fundamentals, including Engineering Methods, Tools and Practice I and II and calculus-based Engineering Analysis courses.  Most courses have many sections and multiple instructors who work as part of an instructional team to maintain consistency of learning outcomes across courses and support continuous improvement of teaching and learning in Engineering Fundamentals courses.
