Job Description

The Department of Social Work in the College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for a Assistant Professor of the Practice (non-tenure-track), nine-month, Social Work faculty position. The position is for 50 % teaching at the BSW/MSW level, 30% Field Education assistance to Director of Field Education and student’s advisement, and 20% service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited, teaching five classes each semester, advising students, participating in curriculum and program development, tasks specific to accreditation, student recruitment and retention, student services, community outreach, and serving on committees.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach five courses (15 credit semester hours) each semester, advise department of Social Work students (BSW/MSW), work with Director of Field Education to assist students with internship placements, participate in Department of Social Work curriculum and program development, and serve on the Department of Social Work committees.

  • Assist the MSW Field Director with students’ internship placements and supervision.

  • Engage in student recruitment, committee assignments at all levels of the University, College, Department of Social Work, and provide services to the community and the profession.

Required Education & Experience:

  • An MSW (Master of Social Work) from a CSWE (Council on Social Work Education) accredited program).

  • Earned doctorate in Social Work or related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years post-MSW practice experience, at least three years of which must be direct clinical practice.

  • LMSW Clinical licensure, or Licensure eligible

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Online teaching experience.

  • Student advisement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment and respect in working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.

  • A record of publication commensurate with appointment at the rank of assistant/associate professor and evidence of ongoing research projects.

  • A record of extramural funding. 

  • Evidence of effective teaching at the graduate levels.

  • Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills.

  • Evidence of a relational approach to working with students and colleagues;.

  • Knowledge of relevant national accrediting bodies and professional standards, including CSWE accreditation processes.
