POSITION SPECIFICS

Position: Assistant Professor of Medicine (Tenure Track)

Department: Department of Medicine, Penn State College of Medicine

Position Summary: The Department of Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Cardiovascular Medicine. We seek an innovative investigator with expertise in cellular electrophysiology and mechanistic cardiovascular research, with a strong commitment to translational science and extramural funding.

This position will play a critical role in advancing precision cardiovascular medicine, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, and expanding the Department’s NIH- and VA-funded research portfolio.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program in cardiovascular science.
  • Provide expertise in cellular electrophysiology, including patch-clamp and advanced functional assays.
  • Collaborate with investigators across cardiology, genetics, stem cell biology, and translational medicine.
  • Contribute to graduate and medical education, including mentorship of trainees and junior investigators.
  • Participate in departmental service consistent with tenure-track expectations.

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in a relevant biomedical discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in cellular electrophysiology and cardiovascular disease mechanisms.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Evidence of current or potential extramural funding.
  • Commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
