Job Description

The Chemistry Program within the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE) at Texas A&M University – Texarkana is currently seeking an outstanding candidate for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Chemistry. The successful candidate will possess documented capability in teaching Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, developing an externally funded research agenda, and providing university service. The successful candidate will be expected to foster the growth of first-rate Chemistry courses, including building on existing strengths within the College and through collaboration with other faculty in CASE. The successful candidate will also address student needs in Chemistry and assist the Division Chair and Dean in implementing the short- and long-term goals of the College. The successful candidate may teach in online or in-person modalities. 

 

Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Teach assigned courses (9 credit hours per semester or 18 credit hours per academic year) 

  • Work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines 

  • Contribute to curriculum and course development 

  • Perform scholarly activities 

  • Serve on department, college, and university committees, as assigned by the Chair or Dean 

  • Serve on professional committees, as approved by the Dean 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:  

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Earned Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with at least 18 semester credit hours in Chemistry at the graduate level  

  • Ability to teach various courses in chemistry, including lectures and laboratory courses 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and organizational skills 

  • Experience with student-centered teaching 

  • Evidence of research experience and scholarship

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Minimum five (5) years of full-time teaching experience at the college level, including lectures and laboratory sections 

  • Ability to teach Organic and Biochemistry courses within our Chemistry program  

  • Experience in teaching upper or lower-division chemistry courses utilizing current supporting technology at the University level 

  • Active research agenda with two (2) recent publications (last 5 years) and experience in competitive extramural funding 

  • Experience mentoring undergraduates in research projects leading to conference presentations or publications 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to assist with university and professional service activities, including national and international outreach to, and collaboration with, industry and other academic institutions 

   

Other Requirements 

  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
