About the Department of Earth Sciences
The Department of Earth Sciences offers two Professional Geoscientists Ontario (https://www.pgo.ca/)-compliant undergraduate programs, the Earth Science program and the Environmental Geoscience program, and a unique BASc program in Earth and Planetary Science Communication. The department is also currently involved in the development of a transdisciplinary Environmental Science program. Our current undergraduate complement includes ~85 majors. The department also offers a thesis-based MSc program in Earth Science. Two cross-appointed faculty members homed in the Department of Geography & Tourism Studies and one adjunct faculty member contribute to this MSc program in Earth Sciences. About the Position
The Department of Earth Sciences invites applications for a three-year Limited Term Appointment (LTA) in Structural Geology/Geophysics at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Department of Earth Sciences, including Structural Geology and Plate Tectonics. The ability to teach Geophysics and Solid Earth Field Camp is considered an asset. In addition, the faculty member would contribute to a transdisciplinary program in Earth and Planetary Science Communication. The person will be expected to continue the Department’s tradition of offering experiential learning opportunities within courses and through direct supervision. The establishment of a successful externally funded research program with supervision of undergraduate and graduate students is expected.
Qualifications
We seek candidates for the Department of Earth Sciences with a PhD in Earth Science or related field with specialization Structural Geology, Tectonics, or Geophysics. Applicants should have a promising track record of scientific and research excellence as well as demonstrated strength in teaching and research supervision.
