Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Translation

The Masters in Translation and Interpretation (MTI) programme within the School of Humanities at NTU Singapore invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor position in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Translation, beginning on August 2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The postholder will help particularly help growth of research and teaching in AI translation within the Translation and Interpretation programme, and participate in NTU Singapore’s Digital Humanities, Arts and Social Science initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research, with the goal of creating new knowledge with a clear academic and social impact, in fields such as AI-enhanced translation workflows, Neural machine translation, large language models, or multilingual NLP, Multimodal and multilingual AI, Translation quality evaluation using AI
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computational Thinking, Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP) for translators, LLM and Translation Memory
  • Actively seek to collaborate with colleagues in related fields, in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences and elsewhere at NTU Singapore, particular in NTU Singapore’s emerging Digital Humanities, Arts and Social Science initiatives.
  • Supervise Undergraduate and postgraduate students theses in AI-related areas of translation.
  • Apply for external and internal research funding.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in translation and AI.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service and outreach activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD holder in Computer Science / Computational Linguistics / Natural Language Processing with a strong focus on translation or multilingual language technologies.
  • Evidence of research potential or established research record (peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability or strong potential to teach relevant courses at university level.
  • Excellent command of English with any Asian languages; additional working languages are an asset.
  • Able to work independently and to collaborate with cross-disciplinary research clusters
  • Relevant publication track record

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience integrating AI tools in translator training (e.g. MT post-editing, terminology extraction, quality assurance).
  • Experience with industry-standard translation technology (e.g. CAT tools, TMS platforms).
  • Evidence of successful grant applications or participation in funded projects.
  • Ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams and with industry partners.
