Position Summary:

The Middle School Assistant Principal will provide leadership, supervision, and accountability for grades 6–8 at A.D. Henderson University School, ensuring a safe, engaging, and academically rigorous learning environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads middle school grade-level team in cultivating consistent, high-quality instruction aligned to state standards.

  • Supports the implementation of inquiry- and project-based learning, interdisciplinary approaches, enrichment programs, and middle school STEM initiatives.

  • Guides teachers in providing effective differentiation, academic supports, and student-centered learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse early adolescent learners.

  • Monitors student progress and achievement using multiple data sources; collaborates with teachers to adjust instruction and intervention supports (including WIN, RtI, and acceleration opportunities).

  • Builds and sustains a positive, inclusive, and developmentally responsive middle school culture that emphasizes character development, restorative practices, strong relationships, and clear expectations.

  • Oversees student discipline for grades 6–8, ensuring consistent documentation in FOCUS and partnering with the behavioral coordinator to provide proactive supports.

  • Establishes routines, structures, and systems that promote students’ social-emotional learning, engagement, and overall well-being.

  • Works with counselors to support student transitions, peer relationships, conflict resolution, and early college/career exploration appropriate for middle school students.

  • Assists the leadership team in maintaining effective day-to-day operations that support a high-performing learning environment.

  • Ensures full compliance with safety protocols, supervision expectations, crisis-management procedures, and state/federal mandates.

  • Coordinates middle school testing operations, scheduling, and student placement processes as needed.

  • Manages supervision of common areas and supports arrival, dismissal, lunch, and transitions to ensure a safe and orderly campus.

  • Supervises, evaluates, and supports assigned middle school teachers and staff.

  • Provides coaching to strengthen instructional practice, classroom management, and student engagement.

  • Assists with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retaining high-quality faculty and staff.

  • Encourages a culture of professional growth through ongoing learning and collaboration.

  • Strengthens communication with middle school families through clear, timely, and student-centered messaging.

  • Collaborates with PTO, community partners, and internal stakeholders to expand opportunities and enhance the student experience.

  • Participates in and supports school-level events, including Curriculum Nights, family engagement programs, and athletic or extracurricular events.

  • Works with the ESE coordinator to ensure proper scheduling and services for students with IEPs, 504 plans, and other support needs.

  • Utilizes data to assess and refine school processes, operational systems, and academic programs for grades 6–8.

  • Completes district and school reports and maintains accurate records.

  • Cultivates strong interpersonal relationships across the school and university community.

  • Performs additional duties assigned by the Principal to support the success of the FAU Lab Schools.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Education from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a teacher.
• A valid Florida Educator Certificate in Educational Leadership, Administration, or Administration and Supervision is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The candidate selected for the position will be required to have fingerprinting done at the FAU Police Department and a background check done by the school.
