Position Description
The McGill University Department of Pediatric Surgery, Harvey E. Beardmore Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position based at the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The professorial rank will be determined according to the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The Department of Pediatric Surgery is a leader in academic medicine. Our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs and research across our teaching hospitals. The Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH).
The Harvey E. Beardmore Division is a leader in outcomes research, global surgery, surgical education, enhanced recovery after surgery programs, and patient and family-centered pediatric surgical care with activities around the globe. The Division also runs a number of multidisciplinary centres in the fields of chest wall anomalies, diaphragmatic hernia, esophageal atresia, colorectal disorders, and pediatric obesity. It hosts Canada’s first pediatric surgery fellowship program and implements a very broad educational spectrum that spans high school students to physicians in practice. It hosts the Commisur Lab, a pioneering research group in surgical communication and global surgery that attracts students from around the world.
Job Duties
The successful candidate will be involved in the academic activities of the McGill University Department of Pediatric Surgery where they will be expected to participate in the full spectrum of educational activities. The incumbent will have the opportunity to engage in a busy tertiary academic and clinical practice, as such, they will be expected to be familiar with the surgical management of all aspects of pediatric surgery.
The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).
