THE ROLE

The Assistant Manager of Operations at the Desert Diamond Arena is responsible for supervising both the Conversion Leads and part-time Conversions Crew.  This person will work with the Lead Conversion Crew Members in training and instructing up to 20 part-time Conversions employees and 20 submcontractors in performing the day-to-day set-up and break-down of the facility, both inside and outside, from one event to another.

This role will also assist with day-to-day repair, maintenance, and cleanliness of the facility, assist in monitoring expenses associated with conversion, as well as make recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness. The incumbent will have experience in operating forklifts, scissor lifts and other necessary equipment and assist the Event Services department on all show related requests.  The incumbent is also expected to maintain professional and effective working relationships with all employees and tenants of the facility. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, lead, train and instruct up to 20 part-time conversion crew and 20 subcontractors in the day-to-day set-up and break-down of inside and outside of facility per the requests and needs of a specific event (e.g., concerts, family shows, etc.)
  • Assist maintenance department with day-to-day repair and maintenance of inside/outside facility to help prepare it for the next event 
  • Work closely with Event Managers regarding current and upcoming shows as it pertains to show related requests, asset management, strategic hospitality, extra equipment / machinery.
  • Work closely with all managers and departments on collaborative projects that at some stage(s) will include efforts from operations.
  • Communicate with and gather feedback from our back of house & front of house clients in order to continue to elevate the artist & tour experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities           

  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff. Serve as mentor/coach to all Conversions team members.
  • Provide timely, appropriate feedback to officers on performance, both positive and corrective. Effectively communicate escalated team member issues to the Operations Management Team.
  • Conduct/lead daily and weekly meetings with Lead employees to discuss conversion techniques to improve efficiency
  • Monitor conversion and crew and make improvements.
  • Monitor expenses associated with conversion
  • Exhibit leadership qualities, motivate staff, and lead by example
  • Participate in and / or lead interdepartmental special committees

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in building operations (forklift, power tools, basic tools, etc.)
  • Skilled in establishing priorities
  • Knowledge of safety practices in order to meet OSHA requirements
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Can effectively establish and maintain professional working relationships with others 
  • Able to work long hours (sometimes overnights) performing difficult work under time pressure
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; push and pull heavy items and equipment

Education and/or Experience          

  • A minimum education level of: High School Diploma or its equivalency 
  • A minimum of 3 years of related work experience
  • Complete knowledge of conversion techniques 
  • Skilled in planning, directing and supervising a large, diverse staff while performing a number of specialized tasks
  • Knowledge of the function and operation of a multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue is preferred
  • 3+ years in a sports and entertainment facility is preferred
  • Supervisory experience strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices
  • Ability to coordinate and schedule staff
  • Excellent good customer service and public relations skills
  • Willingness to accept additional responsibility and assignments
  • Ability to maintain good business relations with all the employees and managers in other departments.
