Avon’s Operating Room features six operating rooms, including two newly constructed suites. The OR supports procedures ranging from critical care and orthopaedic surgery to outpatient services such as colonoscopies, pain management, joint replacements, and abdominal surgery. As an Assistant Nurse Manager on this team, you will assist fellow RNs, physicians and medical staff in providing the best possible healthcare experience. Your work will mainly focus on evaluating patient condition, improving unit policies, managing caregiver schedules and welcoming new nurses to the team.

A caregiver in this role works days from 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. or 6:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Support the Nurse Manager with supervising and supporting RNs and other nursing support caregivers. 

  • Supervise admissions, conduct assessment of patient's needs and initiate nursing care plans. 

  • Evaluate and document patient progress. 

  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives and objectives for the unit. 

  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.  

  • Serve as a liaison between the manager, caregivers and other areas within the organization. 

  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit. 

  • Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage. 

  • Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives. 

  • Assist in orienting new caregivers. 

  • Participate in continuing education and in-service educational programs. 

  • Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)  

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

  • Two years of recent RN experience  

  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Previous supervisory experience

  • Two years of recent OR experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
