Purpose
To provide day-to-day legal support to FWD’s Hong Kong and Macau life insurance business, with a focus on insurance products and regulatory matters, distribution support, commercial contracting, and complaints handling, ensuring that legal and regulatory risks are appropriately managed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
The Job
Insurance Products
Support the drafting and review of insurance policy documents and related customer documentations (including policy provisions, product terms, riders, endorsements, application forms) and client facing documentations (including marketing and sales materials) to ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Provide legal advice throughout the product development, approval, and ongoing review lifecycle.
Regulatory
Advise on compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidelines, and codes of practice applicable to the insurance business.
Analyse the legal and regulatory impact of new or amended legislation and regulatory requirements.
Handle regulatory communications, filings and submissions, including preparation, review and coordination of responses, notifications and reports to regulators.
Manage regulatory interactions with regulators and work closely with internal stakeholders on regulatory matters.
Distribution and Business Support
Provide legal support to various distribution channels, including tied agency, bancassurance, brokers, and direct / digital channels, covering both Hong Kong and Macau business.
Advise on distribution-related legal issues and documentation.
Commercial Contracting
Draft, review, and negotiate intermediary, partnership, service provider, vendor, outsourcing, and operational agreements.
Assist with contract management processes and maintenance of standard templates.
Complaints, Disputes and Litigation Support
Assist with complaints handling, including providing legal input on responses to customers and regulators.
Identify potential legal or operational issues arising from complaints.
Support litigation and dispute matters, including liaison with external legal counsel.
Other Responsibilities
Handle any other legal-related responsibilities and ad-hoc tasks assigned by General Counsel, Legal, from time to time.
The Person
Qualified lawyer holding a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent education background with 3–6 years post-qualification experience.
Experience in life insurance or financial services with hands on experience dealing with regulators.
Good understanding of the Insurance Ordinance, Companies Ordinance, Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, and relevant regulatory requirements.
Strong drafting, analytical, and legal research skills.
Practical, business-oriented mindset with good regulatory awareness.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Chinese word processing.
