Job Summary
The Defensive Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of the defensive unit within the football program, ensuring compliance with NCAA, Lone Star Conference (LSC), Texas A&M University–Kingsville (TAMUK), and Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) policies. This position plays a critical role in developing defensive strategies, mentoring student-athletes, and fostering academic success and personal growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and oversee defensive strategies, game plans, and adjustments to maximize team performance.
Direct and supervise defensive position coaches to ensure alignment with the program’s defensive philosophy.
Prepare and manage scouting reports, film breakdowns, and opponent analysis to inform defensive game planning.
Organize and lead defensive practices, drills, and off-season conditioning programs.
Recruit, retain, and develop high-performing student-athletes while maintaining a culture of accountability in academics and conduct.
Support student-athlete academic progress and graduation through mentoring and monitoring.
Assist the Head Coach in planning and coordinating all practices, travel, and game-day operations.
Effective and timely preparation and management of administrative functions related to the football program.
Promote the football program through community engagement, donor relations, and public appearances in alignment with Athletics Department priorities.
Ensure consistent compliance with NCAA Division II, LSC, and TAMUK rules and regulations.

Minimum Requirements:
Education – Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Experience – Two (2) years of college coaching and recruiting experience or three (3) years combined high school and college coaching experience.
Registration/Licenses – Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree
Defensive coaching experience
Three (3) years of college coaching experience
Collegiate playing experience
Experience recruiting in the state of Texas
